A/C mystery

My P32 A/C shuts off the dash fan at the slightest application of the accelerator, or if the ambient temperature exceeds 101F.
Where can I get a wiring diagram?

Sorry your having problems.
What year is your coach ? Can you see any brand name tags on the a/c housing anywhere ( Acme , Denso and Evans ) are common. Sounds like you are loosing vacuum between the engine and the A/C control head.
First place to check would be all vacuum hose connections on the intake manifold.

Is it shutting off the dash air or is it changing to defrost (default)?. If it is changing to defrost ports, it sounds like a vacuum leak. I had this issue on my pickup and replaced a small broken hose and all is fine now

If on a gasser chassis, start looking f'or a vacuum leak or Bad check valve.

Usually you will see or feel a change in the air flow from the dash vents.

As per the previous posting it is generally a vacuum leak. Easy method to ID this is check for air flow at the defrost and floor outlets. The default postion for the air flow doors with no vacuum is on the floor and defrost.

I'll bet the fan is still running, the rig has a vacuum leak and when you hit the gas (Which drops engine vacuum to near zero) It switches to defrost (The default setting) so you no longer feel the blow... Others have described what to do next.

NOTE: I had this happen in a car twice.

It could be a stuck check valve on your vacuum pump at canister .

Good luck,

James

Question number 2.
Why does A/C air flow shut off if the Ambient temperature is over 101, even idling with engine temperature normal?

The vacuum controlled air mixing door is operated by vacuum , when you accelerate you loose vacuum to canister due to bad check valve and it blows warm to hot air out if vents.

The engine requires vacuum from canister also the more you accelerate the more vacuum is required thus robbing A/C control doors of vacuum.

Hope this helps, IIRC

That's an odd one, but if you get the " under load " problem fixed, I'll bet that goes with it.
Should have asked this in my, first reply .
Is this a new problem or a problem on a new to you coach ?

That coud be the "high pressure" cut off because of a lack of cooling at condenser.

Good info, Mike , just goes to show you what 6 years of retirement will do.
You forget all kinds of important stuff. High pressure shut down, possibly due to, system over charged with Freon, or poor rad fan operation. I'll scratch my head for other possibilities.

Your A/C's Freon system , has low & high pressure cut out switches to protect the compressor, from running out of Freon ( low ) or stalling because of back pressure ( high ). If someone has added Freon to the system ; without measuring the pressure during the top up, the system will shut down to avoid over pressurizing and bursting at the seams.
High pressure cut out , would be most common at high ambient temps, because the pressure cannot be controlled by the cooling at the condenser .
If you get the mode change under acceleration fixed and still have the , high ambient temp problem. You will have to have the operating pressures of the system tested and some Freon removed or the high pressure cut out switch replaced.
