We have all read lot’s of negative posts related to Workhorse brake problems so I thought I should post a positive message.
I departed NH on Oct. 1st headed for Larry’s Auto Clinic in Myrtle Beach, NC. I had called several Workhorse Service Centers in NH to try to address the recall before I left for FL however, none had replacement components yet. I had traveled 43,000+ trouble–free miles with my W22 but 44,000 was not to be. Driving through Allentown, PA I experienced the Bosch melt down first hand. I had just entered I78 when it was apparent the brakes were dragging. Not being one who stops on Interstate Highways I drove six miles to the first exit. By then both front brakes were red hot and the tell-tail ABS light was on. I called Workhorse (5:30 PM on a Friday) and was told a technician would call me back. Within ten minutes I did indeed receive a call. He suggested I wait an hour and see if the brakes released (which they did). He provided directions to a Chev/Workhorse service center 25 miles away and to a Bosch distributor 50 miles away. Having made it to the exit for the Chev. Dealer I elected to continue south. We drove the additional 600 miles to Myrtle Beach with zero problems (other than the ABS light being on).
About Larry’s Auto Clinic
Larry’s Auto Clinic is a small, three bay shop. They are performing the recall on four motor homes every day. They have free 30 amp service so we spent the night at Larry’s. As you may have guessed, Larry is the owner, and oversees the operation. He also has great contacts at Workhorse because my RV needed the front rotor resurfaced, and two new speed sensors. Larry sent photos to Workhorse and received an immediate OK to resurface all four rotors, replace the oil seals, and speed sensors (2). I elected to have the brake pads replaced and that was my only cost; $182.00.
DriVer had spoken well of Larry’s and I’m sure he would be more vocal about this if it was not somewhat of a conflict of interests. I have no such constraints. If you’re near NC, or plan to travel that way, do yourself a favor and schedule your recall at Larry’s Auto Clinic. He will show you the bad parts and discuss your options. Rigs which have not had a brake problem could be in & out in less than four hours at zero cost to you.
I guess I would be remiss if I did not also thank Workhorse and Bosch for addressing the problem correctly. It did take awhile but it is being done correctly.
