I recently took delivery of a motorhome with a Workhorse chassis. As I was getting ready to leave the lot, the ABS light came on and would not go off. I went back into the dealer's office and got them to come out to check it. They could not make it go off or figure out why it was on. I bulked at taking delivery of the motorhome until the problem was resolved. They called a local Workhorse service center and together with the dealer we drove over there. In the meantime the light went off and the message went away. The service center could not find any problem although they could not make their handset communicate with my particular chassis version and view the event log(s). I drove the motorhome on home (about 50 miles) and the ABS light did not come back on. I took the motorhome out on our first trip and the ABS light came back on for one segment of the trip (about an hour of a four hour stint). The service center said this can be normal (due to possible dust and such on some kind of sensor) but I'm a bit nervous about this issue. Has anyone else had any similar experiences?

It sounds to me like you have a loose connection on a wheel speed sensor or there is rust on the sensor ring or the sensor clearance is incorrect. I would have each wheel speed sensor checked.

It can be identified by a "Tech II" instrument that authorized service centers have.

Normally a simple cleaning and re-fit of the sensor will resolve the condition. If the sensor is bad the speed sensor cable will have to be replaced.

Same thing happened to me 2 months ago. Had some work done and when leaving the ABS light was on. Turned off Coach and light went out. Turned out one of the ABS sensors had melted and required replacement.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take it in to different 'authorized service center' and see if they have better luck at it. Turns out there is one a lot closer than the one I took it to originally.

Thanks again....

Hi Dale,

Thanks for that bit of information, it explains why the service center could not use their device (I assume the Tech 2). I looked at your images in your 'tech tips' and 'if' my sensors look like that I will probably try the cleaning method out myself rather than take it to the service center. In any case, with your message I can at least make sure the service center has the appropriate tools before I take it in, (whether they may know about it already is another issue,

I had a welder doing a stud extraction on the R/S of the engine and he moved the sensor somehow while he was working in there. The Tech II I was told confirmed it and the sensor was removed, cleaned and repositioned and so far back and forth to Richmond - No ABS lamp.
