I own a 2004 Newmar Scotsdale on a Workhorse chassis. A year ago, I had calipers and speed sensor replaced on the driver side. Three months ago, I had a similair repair on the passenger side. It is currently at a RV dealership being worked on. The problem is that the ABS brake light is coming on. It doesn't come on right away. It will come on after driving a couple of miles. The dealer can't find the problem. The ABS speed sensors and calipers are working fine. Their diagnostic equipment is showing them that things are just fine with the ABS speed sensors. They think that it could be the ABS control module but are not sure. I hate to just throw parts at it. They want me to take it to some other WH repair center where they may have better diagnostic equipment. We finally agreed to leave it at the current dealer and Monday they are going to call Workhorse about advice.
I would take it to another dealer for the repair. I live in the Corpus Christi area and the closest WH center is in San Antonio which a 3 hour drive.
I would appriciate any ideas about what could be causing this problem.
Thanks .................

TXredfish,

Find a local GM dealership that does truck service and ask them to do a <span class="ev_code_RED">"TECH II ABS SCAN" </span> on your RV. A TECH II scanner can test every aspect of the ABS system operation and components. I am guessing your RV dealer does not have a TECH II scanner as they are very expensive, unless you do exclusive GM work. You might even get the dealership to send one of their Technicians over to the RV dealer that has your RV and test it there for you.

Good luck - Glenn

After reading about brake problems on this forum, could the above problems be because of any of the following:
.. Brakes not returning to normal after applying. I would think that this problem would cause my red "brake problem light" to come on.
The red brake light is not on. Only the ABS light is on.
.. brake fluid
.. IP cluster recall #50402-C. This recall was performed about 2 years ago.

Thanks ............. Eddie

TXredfish, the ABS light just informs you that the ABS is not working. It could be any number of things. Most common cause seems to be sensors that are not properly seated. You might try removing and cleaning, these yourself, or have a mechanic do it. I believe Oemtech has instructions for doing this on his website.
Advice given by Mutha in above post is good thing to do if cleaning sensors does not work.

I want to make the 1100 ohm resistance check on my ABS sensors, but am afraid to pry incorrectly on the rubber caps. How can they be safely disconnected?

In regards to my ABS issues, the latest model of Snap On scanners didn't pick up the problem that the TECH II scanner picked up. My ABS problem was solved by swapping the 2 rear ABS sensors from one side to the other. Go figure.

RottenRalph, Speaks to a connectivity issue most likely and resocketing the sensors must of put them where they need to be. I bet if you were to revese the process again - I bet it would work.

BUT like they say - don't break it if it's fixed.

roadrunner, follow the wire from the sensor, it is a pigtail, back about 18 inches or so there should be a plug where it joins the main harness.

Thank you, Dieselclacker. Found the connectors and have checked two so far. I'm troubleshooting the ABS light always on.
