ABS light Workhorse W22 Stays On

I purchased a 2004 Monaco with W22 chassis. After purchased the dealer was taking it to fill propane tank as agreed. The ABS light came on while they were driving. This is a small dealer and they have had taken the coach to 3 different RV shops for a week at each. They did change the speed sensors on rear axel. They say the code is saying a connection problem. The brakes are firm and no leaks or brake fading. Each shop has ran all the wiring and have not been able to fix issue. Any thoughts on trouble shooting this issue. I am feeling sorry for the dealer for having to spend so much money on this issue and I would love to head south to get warm for a couple weeks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How’s the condition of your brake fluid , old fluid could cause you some issues.

Thank your lucky stars that it came on while the dealer still had it....

Mine came on intermittently after my dealer had done a brake job on it. Took it back and they said they blew out stuff from around the sensor areas. Solved the problem.

Hope they find the problem...sounds like they are a pretty good dealership and trying hard to fix it.

My ABS light has been coming on for the last nine years I have owned the motorhome. Sometimes it stays on for a few miles, other times it stays on for a few hundred miles.

Thanks for the responses. The brake fluid looks very clean. The new shop today pulled all sensors today and cleaned everything. Then traced the wiring harnesses with no luck. They want to replace wheel bearings to see if that would fix it. The coach only has 50k on it so I can not understand that one. It drives like a dream I do not believe it could be the bearings. I am very proud of the dealership I bought the unit from. I know they are a couple thousand dollars into this issue and they guarantee they will get the problem resolved. I will try to split the expense when they get it repaired. When I spoke with the dealer today he told me some had broken into 8 RV’s on his lot and stole a 1 ton truck last night. I hate to see things like that happen when they work so hard to help their customers. I will keep you posted on repairs.

My ABS lite would be on intermittently for a few years. I checked all the same stuff that everyone else does. My son is an auto mechanic and he put a high end analyse on the ABS. All to no avail.

We just found out last summer that a fuse labeled ALT/START was loose and making intermittent contact. The ABS uses this power for the initial power up self test. When the fuse was not connecting the ABS would fail the test and the light would stay on for the duration of the drive.

Good luck

Stan

Thanks Stan. I hope they find the issue soon and it would be great if it was as simple as a fuse. Sometimes the little things are hard to find.

ABS light Workhorse W22 Stays On

I know this might sound silly, but have they tried driving it after cleaning the sensors? I ask because even after clearing the codes for the ABS system the light won’t shut off until you get over 5 mph.

Good point. When they changed the sensors the light went out. They drove about 15 miles then it came back on. The dealer I purchased it from is south of Joplin Mo and they moved the coach to shop in Springfield MO about 75 miles. I was hoping the light would go out on that trip.

ABS light on, took it to the shop in Birmingham, AL for the brake recall, mentioned the problem. They tested the system, found that the sensors had worked themselves out of position. The fix: push the sensors in until they touch the rotors. No further problems with it.

They have changed all sensors hopefully the got them installed correctly. This is the third shop to work on the problem. I am about at the point of going to the shop and set on the rig so they will get it fixed to get me out of their hair.

Mine was located under the 'hood' right between the brake unit and the steering reservoir.
It's where all the engine and really big amp fuses are. Also where the relays are located.

The fuse is located beside the brake cylinder. They have checked all the fuses. I am driving down to the shop Tuesday to try to get some answers. Working over the phone is not getting it done.
