Anyone know what the temp rating is on stock AC Delco Premium Silicone 7MM spark plug wires that I have on my 2006 W24? I have had a misfire over a year ago and they replaced the #4 and #5 insulator boots and installed the air vent kit under warranty. I have not had any problems since then. The air vent kit uses ram air and only works while moving. Would there be any benefit to installing Taylor Extremes for the momentary spike in temp due to stopped traffic? I am curious as to what kind of temps folks have operated in. We are leaving in 8 days on a 9 week Western adventure and I am trying to avoid problems.

In my research.... about 500 to 600 degrees. But, if you have this temp all the time I would suspect that they will fail much earlier. Most will fail where the wire goes into the plug boot.

Taylor Extremes will help but it is not the SOLUTION per si. The real problem is insufficient cooling coming fro the front of the rig. If you install Taylor Extremes take the the time top pull the cover over the plug boot.

The benefit comes in when you have the pedal to the metal and are honking up that grade and pulling your toad.

In addressing overheat conditions Taylor actually redesigned the heat shielding cover and has pulled it down so it completely covers the spark plug boot. The point of failure on stock wires is right where the wire enters the plug boot. On the Taylor that area is completely covered by fabric shielding. (I believe it's Nomex)

In my opinion and I hope I can get an "Amen", your engine although idling will not create anywhere near as much heat as while it's under a load.

If you are hopelessly stuck in traffic, and if your engine idles for extremely long periods of time that may be a problem. In that event I would probably shut down the engine way before it came to that and wait until I could proceed again. Even slow progress forward will allow some air to go through the radiator and provide cooling.

Your auxiliary cooling fans and main engine fan would cut in at idle if the coolant temperature were to get too high. My ScanGauge II allows me to monitor temperature by degree so "IF" I saw a condition that I didn't like I could always place my gear selector in neutral and idle up the engine. That will definitely cool it.
