Hello all,
Has anyone tried the Accel pn#9065 plug wires (retail $135.00) on their 8.1, instead of the Taylors. They come with a silver plug boot and are high temperature resistant. One acquaintance of mine has been running a similar set(pn#9001) on his header equipped, early small block Chevy van and swears by them.
Thanks
Randy
p.s. This van is used to tow his 3200# race car plus the trailer weight.

I reviewed the specifications on the Accel 9065 plug wires on Summit racing and these wires are no way as good as the Taylor Extremes.
The Taylors are 10.4mm and they come with external Nomex jackets which will shield the wire from without before the heat gets to the cable and they can take 500 more degrees of heat.
You can compare the two products using the summitracing.com website. For motorhome applications, I would recommend the Taylor Extremes.

Back to the original question. Has anyone tried the Accel 9065's? My cost on a set of Taylor Extremes is quite a bit higher than the 9065's with the Taylor heat sock price included.
Also if you use Summit's descriptions they do not state a distance that the 1500 degrees is being applied from, where Accel's is from 1/2 inch away. So as you can see from the descriptions we may be comparing apples to oranges.
I have had experience with both wire manufacturers, just not in this setting.
Thanks,
Randy

You can get a set of 409's, Extremes without the sock' for less than the Accel's.
I have a set Taylor TV 50's (50 ohms per foot) on my rig and they still cost less than the Accels. I also like the fact that the Taylor's have 2 mm larger wire.
I also have experience with both an I would choose the Taylors over Accel on specs alone.
By the way... if you have the burnt plug wire problem it won't make a difference WHO'S wires you have. As the plug goes bad in the boot most often.

oemtech,
Your last line is why I am thinking about the Accels. With the silver coated plug wire boot they seem to reflect the heat away from the boot instead of absorbing it.
If and when they need replacing I will probably give the 9065's a shot. The main reason being my cost on the Accels compared to the Taylors.
Bye all,
Randy

If Taylor would have thought this was important I'm sure we would see it since the Taylors bar none are the best possible spark plug wires on the market for the L18.
I do believe from the onset that you were committed to buying the Accels and you were looking for a sympathetic ear. Regardless the Accels should work well for you. Good luck and let us know how they work out.

Driver,
Once more a reply from a moderator that seems to support/sell certain products, not answer the questions placed by members.
I will take my questions and comments and politely go away.
Thanks,
Randy

My stock wires never gave me a bit of problem. In an editorial effort to bring my experience to the next level I responded to member inquiries regarding after market spark plug wires and I installed the Taylors.
If I were going to replace perfectly good OEM wires with a product that shows marginal improvement and does not resolve a problem I would stay with the stock wires. If on the other hand you can prove out the performance benefit on a dyno by implementing the best possible strategy and components and addressing a need then you are taking a step forward in improving your ownership experience.
Go out and get the Accels - you'll be OK. If that the product you want and need then go for it.
