Actia Code

Hi all;

It was a real nice day here up on the Cumberland Plateau so I thought that it was a good time to take my rig for it's periodic ride during the winter months. Anyway, we had a very nice ride and it was good to get behind the wheel of my rig. Shortly before getting home, my brand new (orange read out) Actia display showed the code " No J-1850 Activity". No beeps, chimes or a code displayed on my Scan Gauge II. When I was parking the rig in the RV port, I was able to shift gears, but the shifter did not show the gear that I was in. I parked the rig, put the jacks down, turned the engine off, pulled the key out, put it back in and started the engine up again. No code and a normal readout was displayed. Normal shifting also.

This is a new one for me and I was wondering if anybody can shed any light on this really strange display. We're heading for Florida in about 3 weeks. My Actia display was just replaced a couple of months ago, but the rig has been out for a ride or two since then with no problem. It has however, been very cold here for several weeks now.

Bob

J-1850 is a data bus used to xfer/share data and diagnostics. I wouldn't worry about it, just one of those FM incidents.

Bob,
Found this http://oemys-performance.com/media/a...vicemanual.pdf doing a search on the internet. Hope it helps. Sounds like idle data bus warning.
Where you headed to in FL and for how long? We will be in SW FL mid April. Look at your PM box.

Thanks Al and Frank for the response. Frank, we're heading south about the 10th of January. Going to do about 10 days at Fort Wilderness and add some coins to the big mouse's cash register. Then, it's off to the FMCA Southeast rally in Brooksville for 4 or 5 days. After that, we're hoping to visit some relatives who winter at the (TGO) Great Outdoors Resort in Titusville and from there it's a mystery. Nothing in my PM box yet but I'll keep checking.

Bob, Check and re-socket the "IP" fuse in the coach panel. Look for fuse #21. Pull it out and then push it back in. Make sure it's in the contacts. Sometimes (but not likely) the fuse will miss the jaws.

Thanks Mike, I'll check it first thing in the AM. I just love becoming "contortionist man" when reaching for the fuse panel.

Maybe the Tiffin boys put the panel on top of your gauge cluster??? Here's hoping! Have a nice Holiday Senior Chief! (you need a gutter snipe to get in those tight spots !! )

Arch, If you have a 2004 coach, there is a software update for your IP which I believe will fix the reset issue. You do have to hook-up with a center than can do the re-flash and or find a Regional Service Manager that has the computer and cables to do the flash.

At the Workhorse Owner's Rally on Cape Hatteras, a number of IP re-flashes were accomplished to correct this issue.

The majority of the service centers out there won't have the software and cable to do the re-flash. I have a 2003. At this time there isn't a re-flash available for my year or however 04 and beyond have a fix. Some later year units don't exhibit the IP reset.

Right back at ya Mike, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and the family. We got a crowd coming for Santa's arrival, one of which maybe my brother's bunch, who out of necessity may have to stay out in my rolling mansion. It is parked under the ole RV "porte" which is a good thing due to all the snow, rain, mist and ice that we have experienced. He, being a former fire fighter and "hoser extradinaire" maybe looking for this old coastie to provide a small boat to get to the main house. I, being the wise ole senior chief that I am, will be looking for one of my snipe buddies to come out of a bilge somewhere and fix my Actia display if I can't.

This past fall my Actia finally scrambled, after 7 years, have not had a chance to check anything been to busy with wifes problems.
Expect to take care of it this spring along with brake recall.
The reset, no bells & flash, on mine has not happened for the past two years on my Actia, maybe the answer is there for the 03's and back.

The digital IPs that we use our our motorhomes were first seen in 2003. (point is there isn't a back - previous IPs were analog) There isn't a solution for the 2003 however a flash has been developed for 2004 and later years. I believe the situation doesn't present quite as often in recent builds. If you have the opportunity to hook up with an RSM or are able to attend a Workhorse Club Rally you can have your IP re-flashed for free.
