Since I received no response to the (above) query, I will call Paul Windbigler at Actia tomorrow, to see if he can answer my "odometer" question. I appears, from most posts on W/H problems, that all Authorized Workhorse Service Centers are not equally co-operative. The one I called on 9/21 said he was booked through the end of October, and did not appear very eager for my business. The only reason I called him, was the distance factor ( 14 miles ). The centers that most owners have "recommended" are 30 & 80 miles away, respectively. Maybe I will just wait until I have more
$$$$, and make the trip to Redlands and get Bresel's Ultratune while I have the other problems fixed. LOL.

Hi...How does one get the number for the Actia tech rep. My message ctr went out, and I had to drive 3000 miles with no readings what so ever.
thanks...lenOrge

Call your closest service center and tell them that you have a failed IP display and you can't read anything in the command center. If you are still under warranty there won't be a problem. If you are out of warranty, each complaint will be handled on a case-by-case basis. So far we haven't read that there have been any denied claims regarding IP cluster replacements.

Since your IP is totally blank they most likely will have to send it to Actia in Indiana to have the mileage read and re-dialed into the replacement cluster. The service process (turnaround) is pretty quick I am told and you should be good to go within a few business days.

The phone number for Actia is 866-662-9945. Leave the phone message and they call you back. I think this was a "dealer" number but they were back to me in 10 minutes with a no hassle response. They just said they wanted me happy and they would swap the IP out with no sweat.

Yesterday I tried to access the diagnostic menus and each time I wanted to proceed beyond the initial 'Software Version Screen' I ended up exiting. This happen if I pressed the Mode and/or Odometer buttons to attempt to page down. What is the correct method for accessing the page down function?

On mine, I hold down the Mode button for 5 seconds, then release it. This puts me in the diagnostics mode with the list of line items. Pressing the Mode button pages down. When you leave the cursor on the selected line item, you'll get the reading for that line item. Press Mode button to exit, & you'll go back to the menu of line items. Press Trip to back (up the list).

Like others, I have an older software version; but it works, so I ain't touchin nuffin.

Just for the same reason that Allison would update their firmware or GM would update the calibration file from year to year Actia releases their new IPs with the then best software version. The new software version is not necessary in an older IP as it would add little value or functionality to the previously manufactured IP. These are routine production changes that for the most part are not mission critical in reference to previously manufactured hardware unless the firmware update addressed and resolved a deficiency in the hardware. The firmware at that point would then have a software update or patch applied if it resolved something.

The last best software version that most of us have experienced was the brake lamp software update. This NHTSA campaign fixed a communications problem between the IP and a brake component pressure switch.

DriVer,
Not for the first time I am completely baffled by your posts. This time are you trying to say I don't have the software revision that would allow me to access the diagnostics menu? My IP was replaced and I was told that the new unit complies with the 'Brake Lamp' NHTSA campaign fix.

Thudman,

Thanks for taking the time to provide ACTIA's phone #. I have already sent an e-mail to them requesting, if available, the user manual in PDF or other similar format. I also asked for their feedback on how to access the diagnostic menu.

Geechee, Not at all. The problem you are having is all procedural. You need to push and hold your Mode button for "10" seconds and it will (should) come up with the diagnostics menu. If it doesn't then you have a problem that needs to be corrected by a service center - or Actia. This has noting to do with software version however if you navigate in that menu you will be able to see the software version you have.

I regret the confusion in my communication however I thought it was a accurate statement that provided the response you were looking for. My focus was to reply to the "Quote" were you stated, "Why would WCC introduce a new version if there are no improvements?"

DriVer,

I not trying to belittle the point, but what does my post regarding accessing the diagnostic menu have to do with a post I made back Aug. 21 regarding the ECM software? That's going from apples to oranges. Why didn't you just say it takes 10 sec and not the 5 sec the manual calls for the first instead of deflecting to some other point. You must be a politician.

Since you failed to do so, I had to contact ACTIA. I received the following reply regarding the correct, and not what the manual says, time for accessing the DM.

Mr Geechee (name changed to protect the innocent, LOL)
I have found out from your correspondence that our service manual does indeed instruct you to hold the mode button in for 5 seconds and this information is in error, the correct time limit is a minimum of 10 seconds to get into the diagnostics menu. The ignition must be on and the park brake set for this to occur, if you have any other questions feel free to contact me.

Thanks Paul
