The magic day finally came and went. Oemy drove to my house and then we drove to his shop (I live in a community with lots of restrictions and we all know how regimented Oemy is). It's about an hour from here and a nice ride through the countryside to the east of Austin.

Here's what he did: changed the oil on the motor and generator, changed the filters on same, changed the air filter for the motor, checked out my tire pressure "problem", installed Speed Bleeders, bled the brakes and installed brake fluid. Added to the final bill was a six pack of Bounty paper towels (Oemy is VERY clean, neat and fastidious and is constantly using towels!).

We "had" to take a break for lunch and he drove us in his 1983 Monte Carlo SS to the Southside BBQ in Elgin, one of the great BBQ places in Texas. As I got in the car, he told me not to worry about the towels on the floor as he had just gotten new high dollar floor mats and didn't want them messed up. I told you he was neat. But, tell me once again what floor mats are for???

After coming back, I just glanced over at his motorhome and noticed that the headlight lenses were chrystal clear, much more so than the glasses I wear to read! Not only that, but he has a lot of neat toys and the tools to work on them.

Anyway, the whole thing came to less than I would have paid at my local dealer - who I like very much - for just the brake flush and bleed. More importantly, I learned where things were and how to maintain them myself. In the future I should be able to save money and feel better about the motorhome by doing things myself. I estimate the total bill was probably about 40% of what it would have cost me taking it to a dealer. Since I'm one of those who believed in having the MH maintained, I should be happier in the future.

As for the tires, all were are the proper psi except for one inside dually which was 3 psi low. His psiCyclops was able to get a reading and fill to the proer level. He also determined that my extenders were no long of any value and need to be replaced.

So now I feel good about the motorhome again. I also learned that two 69 year old farts make a lot of noise when climbing up and down and crawling over over the ground. Actually that was Oemy more than me 'cawz I'm in terrific shape!

Denny,

Cool story and I bet there are several others that have very similar stories about Oemy and his willingness to help people.

Dave

Dale, can you come to my house. My HOA is pretty mellow. They won't mind us working on the MH.

Naaaahhh.... Just trying help a friend and fellow RVer.

I think I can fix his headlights at the house. Here is a headlight on my Honda CRV before and after reburb. The before doesn't look all that bad. But, I have refurb'd them two times prior to this one.

As for the floor mats... I have a set for everyday but I left them at the house. The ones in the car are for show...

Another point I wanted to make but forgot was that you're never too old to learn. All of us have skills in areas that others may not and to not take advantage of those folks who are willing to share would be unfortunate. Dale has been very helpful to me in the past and I've learned a great deal from him. If anyone has a friend or acquaintance who is skilled in a field that has anything to do with RVing, take advantage of that and learn something new. In my case, since I didn't bring anything to the table (pun intended), I showed him my consumate skill in eating BBQ. I'm REALLY good at that!

Everything you've posted about Dale is true. He and his website have helped many, me included.

However, I'm surprised about Southside since I thought he preferred Meyers. LOL

"Meyers"? I can't believe there is a BBQ place in central Texas I don't know about. Unless you are talking about the brand, not a place. I actually thought we were going into Taylor, to Louis Mueller's, and was pleasantly surprised we wound up at Southside.

Meyers is at the eastern end of Elgin and better than Southside to the west, IMO. Truthfully, I thought it was Dale's favorite too.

Have you been to the "mecca" of BBQ down south....Lockhart?

You're right, I forgot about it and only remembered the brand.

I have been to Lockhart and enjoyed it - who wouldn't? My favorite is Cooper's in Llano. I've driven 100 miles out of my way coming home from trips just to stop there and get some of their BBQ.

I went to a party at a friend's house last night and they had brisket and sausage from HEB. It was surprisingly good.

I would have went to Meyer's but I had to pick up my taxes and it was next door to the BBQ place. I will take Denny to Meyer's next time. There is another spot that Denny and I like... Louie Mueller's in Taylor, TX. He makes X amount of food and when he runs out he shuts the door.
