Hi Guys , well My 2004 W-22 8.1 L Newmar traveling down I-75 to Florida decided to I think to blow a exhaust gasket, I am hearing a ticking sound on the passanger side on excelleration from the exhaust system, Can this be just tightend with a wrench or ??? and can I leave it till I get back to Canada to fix ??
Also since my 3 year warr. from Newmar is up is this covered under Workhorse ?? it an 04 -W-22..
I just took the RV out of storage last week ( 6 MOnths) so this was our first long drive this year
The RV runs OK with this problem, but do not want more damage.
Also on a side not I noticed my tires had very small cracks in the side walls ( spider like ) no belts showing, just small cracks in the rubber around the side walls I only have 18,000 miles on them, Advise ??
Standing by
Thanks

My advice to you would be to get it checked out. If it is a blown gasket or broken manifold bolt and you leave it till you return you may do more damage like a warped exhaust manifold. Also, it may just be a loose connection of the head pipe to the exhaust manifold that requires tightening. I think some workhorse items may have a 5 year warranty. I'm sure someone will jump in here and tell you. DriVer will know for sure.
Weather checked sidewalls can cause a blowout and should be checked too. I have an 04 but live in Florida and they last pretty good. Still original tires.
Depending where you are in Florida there are a number of quality workhorse centers. Turning Wheel in Ocala is one near me that I use.

It's directly under the stand alone "X" on a Michelin XRV.

That date code means the tires were manufactured the 3rd week of 04.
As for the broken stud.... Unless your a very competent mechanic I would take to a shop that knows how to deal with it with out removing the head.

TVP,
The date codes on the other tires are probably on the other side of the tire. They usually only put the date code on one side. If those are the original tires they "probably" are all pretty close in age.

Unbeleavable! 3 year old tires and they have cracks already? So much for the 5 to 7 year replacement plan. AYE Mate?

I believe my next tires will be Goodyear's. They are guaranteed for 5 years, even against cracking.

I am very pleased to have continued using Michelin XRV tires. There are a number of reasons why tires display cracking and it is my understanding disuse or low-mileage might be one of them. Exercising tires by running them helps keeps the sidewalls pliable. Letting tires sit idle isn't a good thing.
Like they say use it or loose it!
It is my experience that after 54,000 miles on "3202" dated tires that I had did did not display any obvious cracks in the sidewalls that would have required the tires to be taken out of service.
I am now running 6 brand new Michelin 235/80R-22.5 LRG tires and very pleased to have them. Not one bit of trouble with the old tires except that they would have expired this August and we're planning a few extended trips from home.
Michelin tires are not low bid items either. They were chosen because they are expected to perform well and there's good product recognition by owners similar to Bilstein and or Allison as an extended example.
Current tires are matched and dated "4706". The new tires feel almost tacky, this I'm told is a physical property of the rubber that promotes good longevity.
I bought the tires after having received 3 bids - out the door installed, disposal fees, new valve stems, equal and a $50.00 gift certificate - 2.261K. I thought this deal was stellar!

Well sorry I did not get back to you guys sooner, did not have an internet connection, anyway , Workhorse has said they will cover the exhaust manifold leak under Warr, and as far as the tires go I did use 303 protect on them all the time and kept them covered when down in Florida, and they still cracked, so mabey Good years are next tire of choice, What size Goodyears would fit as a replacement of the 235 80 22.5 XZE tires, with the rear spacing issue.
Thanks

After some 53,000 miles and not that much maintenance my tires remained serviceable until the day I changed them.
