Last week while doing PM on my chassis I found my air dam above the radiator pretty well shredded and disintegrating. Certainly it was not doing its thing!
I was cautioned to not do any serious driving without that this air dam part being in good shape. So I gave Brazel's a call after Driver advised me they had it in stock.
A phone call to Mike Bronzini Got me the part I needed in very short order.
These guys are really user friendly, especially for DIY folks.

Don't mean to interrupt your thread, but while on the subject, what exactly is an air dam and what's it's purpose? Thank's.

Mike,
What can result from running with the air dam partially gone. I too have a 2003 National Dolphin product and mine is falling apart also. It was never really very good from the start. I have put a lot of miles on the coach and haven't really noticed any problems.

Pat,
The air dam is a rubberized sheet of material that effectively blocks the air entering the front grill from bypassing the flow through the radiator and other coolers that need fresh cool air to transfer engine heat to the air.
It is easily seen with the front hood open. The oil dip sticks and oil filler pipe poke through the material and block your view of the engine space behind the radiator.
Mine was older thinner material then is now used and had decomposed from the heat--I suppose. Anyway it is now replaced and better then new-- which is more then I can say for me after doing the installation.

PAT: you are not interupting, and it is our pleasure to help you understand more about your WCC chassis.
The "air Dam" is the rubber "curtain" which is intended to block off the flow of air which would otherwise go around (and not through) your radiator. It should be attached to the "firewall" above and all around the front side of the radiator, other than a few small openings for items like the dip sticks and oil fill neck and cap.
Often these dams get torn at mounting points and / or where the small openings were created by the coach builder. This torn/shredded condition will allow the air flow to "escape" around the radiator, and deminished cooling can result. Workhorse offers a replacement part, which is then cut to fit your installation. ED

Fred,
Driver had advised me not to run with out the air dam in place. Although mine has recently started to fall apart, I didn't want to expose the system to a hot AZ summer since we will be getting out of here later then usual. I suppose spark plug wire could become a casualty or engine cooling less then 100%.
It's put there for a reason!
Marty

I have an 06 Sea Breeze LX and there was no air dam when I got it new. What's with that?

Glenn,
I'd guess that NRV didn't put it on. You might call their customer service and find out if that's an item they use on your style coach. I would expect it to be there.
Or check out some dealer inventory to see if it used on any other Seabreezes.

On NRVs I have noticed that they have a frame work structure on the right side of the hood opening and I'm not sure if this isn't in the way. I would try to make sure the dam is in place and you may need to go to a service center to have the work done.

Thanks for the info regarding my question on what is an air dam and it's purpose.
I have noticed that some models have the engine completely boxed in on the sides. A friend has a 04 Dolphin and you can't see the engine like you can on my fleetwood when looking at it from the wheel wells. I gather this is not part of the air dam system? Could you remove the side covers and open up the air flow. Seems like this closed box design would keep the engine area hotter?

I have open spaces on both sides of engine in wheel wells the heat will get out of spark plug area as long as you have that air-dam. Just be careful of what you may have attached to side covers and redress away from engine some wires may need foil heat shields.
