I would suggest that something isn't broke if a person chooses to restore the vehilce to "stock" (OEM) condition.

The rubber fabric dam over the top of the radiator to the firewall is essential. Other folk's expereince may vary.

Thom B,

If you get a scanguage, which you should, you may find it shows water temperatures significantly higher than the dashboard gauge. I had an aftermarket gauge on an older Trek, and a scangauge on the current one, and both showed higher temperatures than the dashboard gauges. I don't even bother reading the dashbard coolant gauge anymore...

Are you on Trek Tracks?. Great forum http://www.nwtfc.com/forum/

I quess I am one of the lucky one's that has never had an over heating problem. On my 05 d0lphin I have a steel firewall that extends the full width of the front with openings for the coolpack/ECM/TCM and dip sticks and fill tubes. There is and never has been any fabric or rubber air dam. Along the sides of the engine there is fabric that keeps the front wheels from splashing water and dirt on the engine.

Good thread. I think I'll keep watching it to see if it gets as exciting as all the oil and/or tire pressure threads. ;-)
