Transmissions shipped between June 1999 and March 2002 Expires Feb 2008

Recently had my Allison Transmission serviced
and found this Field Action that applied to my vehicle:

February, 2004

TO:

All Owners of V ehicles equipped with Allison 1000 and 2000 Product Families Transmissions between SIN 6310001000 and SIN 6310203136 (These transmissions were shipped from our factory between June 1999 and March 2002.)

1000 and 2000 Product Families Transmissions in Non-Pickup Applications

2004FA-l Allison Transmission Customer Satisfaction Field Action

MODELS: SUBJECT:

Our records indicate that you currently own a 1000 or 2000 Product Family transmission. Allison Transmission is committed to Customer satisfaction and we want you to have absolute confidence in your Allison product.

We have determined that some 1000 and 2000 Product Families transmissions have been built with torque converters that do not meet our stringent design requirements. While this should not be an issue for most Customers, a small number of Customers have reported premature clogging of the transmission filter. Should the filter become clogged. the "CHECK TRANS" light may illuminate or the performance of your transmission may be affected.

To re-enforce our commitment to provide quality products ,md surpass Customer expectations, Allison Transmission has decided to conduct a field action to address this issue. This field action has been authorized for a period of 4 years ending February 1, 2008.

This action is a statement of our strong commitment to you, our Customer. Even though the number of Customers that have reported this issue is small, we want all of our Customers to know that Allison stands firmly behind our products.

If you have not had a problem with your transmission, you do not need to contact us, simply continue regular maintenance of your transmission. Should you have this problem, please contact your authorized Allison distributor or 1000 and 2000 Product Families transmission dealer to arrange an appointment. The authorized Allison Transmission distributor or dealer will perform the necessalY inspections and determine the corrective action required. Instructions for making this correction have been sent to all authorized Allison distributors and dealers. They are equipped to obtain the necessary parts to correct your transmission as promptly as possible.

We rebrret any inconvenience this may cause and have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with Allison Transmission products. Should you have a question concerning this matter, you may contact us at 1-800-252-5283.

Thank you for your confidence in choosing an Allison transmission. Your satisfaction is our number one priority.

I had another problem with my Allison transmission (wrong programming) and they noticed this bulletin. It was very convenient to do it all at once. This also allowed me to upgrade to the Transynd fluid for only the difference in cost between the standard stuff.

In order to fix it they had to pull the torque converter and drain it. This made for a very clean and complete fluid change.

It sounds like, if you don't have a complaint don't call. Mine was actually fixed in 2002.
