Max, have you looked into a chip?
Limited the "there's a hill in the distance, I better downshift!" syndrome is a major plus of a performance tune. Brazels or 5star can fix you up. I've had a brazel ultrapower tuner, it's marvelous.

Sorry for the hijack, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Update to earlier post. I am still having intermittent and occasional transmission problems. It sometimes will not shift to fifth gear now matter what and sometimes will be very difficult to keep it it fifth even on level roads. It acts like it's climbing steep a grade. (The temporary fix is to stop and shut the engine off and then restart.) And, at other times it runs fine. I took it to an Allison shop in Houston this morning and they found three transmission codes stored: P0731, Incorrect 1st gear ratio; P0746, Solenoid A control clutch stuck off; Solenoid B control clutch stuck off. Earlier this year I had Allison change fluid to Transyn at about 35000 miles. I will report the results when I pick it up in a few days.

TAMU62,
Does your 2005 have transmission grade brake?

If it does, perhaps the brake light switch needs adjustment or replacement. On mine, the transmission will come out of 5th gear with application of brake pedal pressure. On rough roads the switch tended to be triggered by bumps causing cruise control drop outs as well as transmission down shift from 5th gear. After an adjustment of that switch both issues went away.

That's one to keep in the memory bank, Thanks

No grade brake, just a stock transmission.

Allison shop cleared codes P0731, P0746, and P0776 which were inactive. They could not find the cause of the codes, so will just keep on driving until something happens again. As of now transmission is working according to spec. Anyone have any thoughts?

Keeping my fingers crossed! There are few things that have not given me troubles and the Allison transmission itself is one of them. I've had a blown out TCM - Not fun driving a motorhome in manual shift mode.

I just got a Ultrascan OBDii reader and have it hooked up permanently on my coach. I have gotten a couple check engine lights in the past and didn't know what caused them so I'll know from now on as the code will display right away.

The cost is about $80.

There are some other scanners available for more money with more features but for what I want to do this one will fit the bill.

I noticed you had the Allison flushed. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Allison doen't recommend flushing on the 1000 transmission.

My transmission came with Dexron III and when it was time to change, I had them switch to Transynd. They did not flush the transmission. To switch to Transyn you need to do 2 complete fluid changes to get 100% Transynd.
