What am I missing here? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>You are not missing anything. We all had to initially change our Allison spin on filters at 5,000 miles being careful to not throw away and restore the ring shaped magnet on the top of the filter. Refill the filter with your current load of fluid whether D3 or T'Syn and spin the filter back up. The hand torque instructions are on the box.
This is general knowledge around these here parts so it's nothing unusual. The filter is inexpensive and you don't need an A&P to change it.
Available at an Allison parts shop or Chevrolet/GMC parts counter the filter can be priced from less than $10 bucks to over $20 depending on where you buy it. It's normally less expensive buying directly from Allison.
