Mabry,
Are you sure you don't already have Transynd installed in your transmission. What is your date of manufacture? 2nd QTR 05 Allison transmissions already have Transynd.

Charles: as Mike said, you may already have TranSynd in your tranny in which case you don't need to change it now. However, if you want to proceed all you need to do is put a suitable container under the drain plug and remove it. You'll probably get about 10.5 quarts out of the drain hole. The pain is to properly measure how much comes out so you know how much to put back-which is the other pain- because it is necessary to get the 2 & 1/2 gallons or so down the tranny dipstick tube. I used a piece of clear plastic tubing into the dipstick tube and a hand pump to draw out the new fluid from the gallon size containers. Pouring is nearly impossible, funnels are pretty much useless too, IMO.
Now, for a "complete" conversion to TranSynd, you need to drive the MH after the first change, go buy another 3 gallons, and do it all over again.
I sure hope you already have TranSynd in yours so you can avoid all this fun. ED

My 05 w-20 used about 2.25 gal. I used a container and marked on it the amount of fluid which was drained out, then removed the old fluid and put new fluid to the mark. I used a in line hand pump after securing the container on to a ladder which started a siphon and let the fluid siphon thru thr dipstick tube. I also pre filled the trans filter.

Charles: sorry, I must have been typing when you posted your build date. The bad news is that Workhorse BEGAN installing TranSynd on the assembly line on April 6, 2005....so it looks like you have Dexron III.
Even if you only do one drain and refill with TranSynd ( for now) your tranny will thank you. ED

i left my moho sit unstarted for a couple of months. apparently, most of the torque converter fluid drained into the transmission pan. i drained 13.5 qts. of fluid including what was in the filter. from what i read on the allison website, my tranny is supposed to hold 14.1 qts when new.
i installed AMSOIL tes295 synthetic fluid. i used about 2 feet of 5/8 heater hose, 2 hose clamps, a transmission funnel and another funnel wired to the windshield wiper to hold it up to install the new fluid. i used a 6 ft stepladder. pour slowly.
i used the allison filter from OEMY on recommendation of threads on this website.
when you change the filter, don't forget about the magnetic washer that sits on top of the filter.

Good on ya' Dan, just did the same thing. Second drain and fill since new, once at about 12K, and again at 23K now. I use the same product.
I was thinking I didn't need to do it this soon, but really, since they started with Dexron I figured every 12-15K and after about three changes it's mostly synthetic. I compared the color on the dipstick to the new and it was enough oxidized to make it worth the 2 gallons of fluid. I just buy the 2.5 gal bottles, did the duramax too, it was a lot more oxidized than the MH.
