Has any one else noticed the cost for a tranny service is about 150-200$ on our 5SP allison gas rigs. since this only entails changing a small spin on external filter and draining the pan it seems a litle excessive. I always assumed they had to drop the pan and replace the gasket and change some internal filters.I was surprised when the allison dealer told me it was just a drain and fill. If I had known I would have done it my self.- John

I have found that there are two types of
Allison Shops. One is certified by Allison
to *only* do drain and fills. The other is
a full-on Allison Service Facility, like the
really great one in Ridgefield, Washington,
right on the I-5 corridor. They do TCM re-
programs, every thing. The Tech that works
on your rig (at Ridgefield) has all the correct
Allison Tools and Training to git 'er done....
I was taken aback when I saw posted here a price
of (I believe) over $350 for a tiny leak repair
and filter and TranSyn fill..yikes!
BTW--by design the Allison pan gasket can be used
again.

I haven't noticed and likely won't, as draining and refilling the Allison is one of the simpler maintenance routines that you must do on your coach. I'll concede that without facilities or mechancal inclination, you tend to be at the mercy of whatever facility writes up the R.O.
One of the many pleasures of motor coach ownership is the information available on this and other R.V. forums. Because of DriVer's great post on CAI's, I was able to craft a DIY equivalent at a considerable savings. I am now working on a rear Trac-Bar as a result of OEMTech's sharing his experience and drawings. It's not because I'm obsessed with saving a buck or two - remember that old adage, if ya gotta worry about what it costs, you probably can't afford it, but because I get a great deal of personal satisfaction from the challenge and result.

That is why I choose to do it myself. Tha Allison shop in Tampa, FL wanted $325 to change the fluid to Transynd...Need to do it twice, = $650.00.
