Allison Transmisson question

I recently bought a 2006 Bounder with the WH chassis. The coach has 37K miles on it and other then the inital transmission filter change, I dont think it has been serviced before.

I plan on doing so myself, but unsure of what Transmission fluid to use. I have read that there was a change somewhere around the time mine was built and don't want to "cross breed" any fluids.

Any advice ? The should around here for RV repairs are few and far between.

Thanks

Use only Transynd or other TES-295 approved synthetic fluid in your Allison. Your chassis was probably built late enough that the transmission already contains Transynd. In that case, you should be good for 150,000 miles according to the recommended Allison fluid/filter change schedule here. I don't know for sure which tranny is in your chassis, but it's probably a 1000MH, 2000MH or 2100MH.

Workhorse BEGAN filling all the Allisons with TranSynd on April 6, 2005 therefore it is "likely" that is what you have. If so, it may not need to be replaced at all.

Since new TranSynd is >$30.00/gallon, I think you should have a sample analyzed by JG labs BEFORE arbitrarily dumping yours.

If you do decide to change it, get 5 gallons and a new filter # 29539579 from an Allison distributor. I think that will be Stewart & Stevenson in TX.

Thanks for linking their site, Steve.

drakethib: FYI, there is also an Allison forum here on iRV2.com and the owner of JG labs is active posting lots of good info there. I just bought and used one of their analysis kits and got a prompt report answering my concerns about the condition of my TranSynd. The testing was considerably cheaper than replacing the still "like new" TranSynd in my 4 year old chassis. Ed

The replacement criteria for Transynd is 4 years or 100,000 miles. In my 10+ years of ownership, I have brought up my Transynd concentration to a high level and I have since changed my fluid 1 additional time. That was 3 dumps, 3 new control filters and refills. Each refill was about ~13 quarts. You may want to have a new drain plug available from Chevrolet in the event your gasket is damaged in the removal.

Hello Allison Tranmission Community, my 99 Damon Ultrasport, during our latest trip stated on dash Error Tranmission. It would not engage into D, or R. So we opened the manual, reviewed the codes and what came back was L-95o. I cked the transmission fluid it was fine. We cleared the code and traveled on. It came back on 1 other time, but again drove fine and showed good on fluids. I took the vehicle into Lakeside International Trucks in Janesville, WI. Recommended on the Allison Website, they recommended that the fluids/ filter be changed. We did this the code came back on. In their diagnostics they saw that codes (22-16), they felt the transmission output speed sensor should be replaced. They did this. They felt their was no other codes. On the way back I stopped back to fuel up and the dash light came back on. I called back Lakeside, they shared it was probably an electric wire issue somewhere, and they would have to troubleshoot. However, since they did not have any wiring diagrams felt i should go to a Freightliner dealer.

Okay so does anyone have any ideas here? Really appreciate your assistance? I lost faith in Lakeside International.

Sincerely,
Ryan

RYAN: Your post here in the Workhorse forum will get you "some" replys, but I'm thinking you'll get more specific answers if you post the tranny model and your question in the Allison Forum here on iRV2. It is located at the bottom of the "Power train garage" section. I'm guessing yours is a DP tranny.
