our workhorse w-22 chassis is due for its 5 year change. is there anything special that needs to be done to do this change or should any compatible garage be able to perform this other than a workhorse dealer?

I had mine done by the same trusted garage that does my cars. No problems there.

It's a general maintenance item & not limited to any specific manufacturer authorized service facility. While brakes are being serviced, have remaining pad wear measured, ABS sensors cleaned & guide pins lubed.

BTW:
If you're agile enough to crawl under the coach..then each is a DIY-able job. It's not rocket science & there's no secret handshake. If you don't have the time or want to get dirty; then I can understand having a mechanic do the work. But don't be intimidated from the mechanical know-how. It's just too simple to do! I just did my brakes per the directions here on WH forum. Did all of the above myself, both for my education/ familiarity and to have a hands-on look at the wear conditions. AF done last spring with a backflush.

Back to your question. Any service shop can do.
