My 35db Allegro bay is a 2003 model and it has the smaller automotive type steering wheel. No matter how I adjust it or my drivers seat the steering wheel seems to block me from seeing the tach or speedometer.

Has anyone installed the larger steering wheel? Do you like it? Also can you buy this and install it yourself or do you have to have workhorse do it?

I looked on their website and all I can find is a $350+installed price

Thanks

Thanks for the tips and I already ordered one from the link taking me to the earlier discussion. From VIP it was about $125 plus $6 for the horn button I think it was.

Saved me a bundle !!

Don

I have enjoyed the new visibility of the dash and the added comfort and control that I currently experience. You can always order the WCC horn button later and it'll look like the real McCoy.

I have the bigger wheel, but it blocks my drivers seat from spinning around when parked.

It amazes me that Workhorse put such a lousy steering wheel on in the first place, and then has the gall to offer a better one....amazing...

I have a Gulf Stream Sun voyager, 2004 on the W22. If I had a larger Steering wheel I sure would have to lose some weight. ON my unit the seat will not go back far enough to install the large wheel . The slide out is right behind the seat and even now I am right against it with the seat back. I find myself adjusting the steering wheel so it is almost flat and then I can see the dash very well. Now it the seat was able to go back farther then the larger wheel would be nice. But before you buy make sure you have the room.

Workhorse W-Series 22 & 24 chassis come standard with 18 inch leather wrapped steering wheels. It is up to the OEM to order the chassis with them on. This is the very same thing we saw early on when the W22 came standard with 22.5 inch tires and the OEMs were ordering 19.5s. Another option is the shifter pad, if they don't order it the customer gets a conventional shifter.

I see no gall in making this accessory available to the public as an after market item. I think that WCC is only trying to give those folks that want the larger wheel the opportunity to have an 18 since the OEM didn't order the steering wheel from the get go.

This why both FCCC and WCC both use "Custom" in their business title because it means that the customer can get whatever they want to order. In this case the customer is the OEM.

On the other hand I have first hand experience in speaking with folks that actually do want the smaller steering wheel. They say they feel more comfortable with a wheel that is more automotive like and not so much like driving an 18-wheeler. Some folks are intimidated by the larger wheel.

It's all in the eye of the beholder and it's all a matter of preference - thanks for your take on this issue.
