Approximately how many miles do you get from your brake pads?

I know this is a subjective issue, but I was just looking for some points of reference. I have almost 40000 on my W22 and I am hoping to wait for the brake recall before going into the brakes to replace anything so it can be done at the same time.

Since I am lazy , does anyone have the minimum thickness of the pads?
Thanks, Joe

Joe, The minimum thickness of the brake pads is: "The thickness of the back plate" or about 1/4."

I have 48k on my W24, and I have at least 1/2" of brake lining left. Does anyone know what the original lining thickness was on a W24?

That's a tough one. I can't answer that question for sure although I've seen new W24 pads show chassis. If you have 1/2" of brake pad showing - you're good to go!

I've seen the W24 show chassis, once or twice, but I never paid any attention to the brake pads.

I looked at my pads quite a while ago (maybe at 30k), and they don't seem to have changed much. That's just one of those things I need to remember to check once or twice a year.

paz, When I wore out my brake pads on my 66mm Bosch units, I had over 50k miles.

I had 31,900 on mine and only showed 1/2 gone except for the right front which I had locking up on me and it was down to 1/4 left.

I haven't had any lockups so I am lucky so far. Thanks for the replies. I will get out there and see how much I have left.

I looked at my front brakes and see that I have more than 1/4 but less than 1/2. I guess I am good for now. My left front looked like the pad was cracked laterally??

Joe, What you need to look at is the thickness of the back plate vs the thickness of the shoe. If shoe is > back plate you're good to go!

It looked to me as if I had about 3 times the back plate. Thanks, Driver.
