Most, but not "all", have the 8.1L and I believe the year GM sold the RV chassis (P32)business to WCC was 1999. ED

Steve </div></BLOCKQUOTE>No, The W16 uses the 6.0L engine. All others use the 8.1L engine.

WCC started producing chassis in Union City in 1999 I believe and they continued to fill GM/Chevrolet orders until those were complete. I believe that all chassis produced on the floor in Union City start with 5B4 in the VIN#. Subsequently all other chassis are Workhorse. The roof wasn't entirely completed I believe and it was snowing/raining inside the plant but they were getting out the products.

PS: They did get around to fixing the roof.

DriVer,
You're right about the startup. It ws Jan-Feb of 99 and the walls and roof were incomplete. It was extremely cold and everyone wore 3-4 layers of clothes. The Plant Mgr would come into the orientation classes at the end of the day to meet and address the next group of employees and his mustache and beard would be frozen stiff. No one in the industry thought they had any chance of building chassis before warm weather but they were moving frame rails and assembling in the snow.

Mike: I'm sure you mean "all other GAS chassis use the 8.1L"

As I'm sure you know, the R series Workhorse chassis uses the CAT C7, and has previously been fitted with various Cummins engines. ED

Actually, Workhorse no longer offers the 6.0 liter engine, only the 8.1 liter engine, in all front engine gas chassis' (16k-24k).

FRANK: Perhaps their website has not been updated, but IT still shows the W-16 comes standard with the 6.0L, with the 8.1L as an option. After that, all GAS chassis come with the 8.1L standard. ED

The W16 chassis seems to be somewhat of a unique product. As far as I can tell, it was only used on the Fleeetwood Terra/Fiesta 26Q models. All Fleetwood advertising for "06 and later Terra/Fiesta models shows the 8.1L engine as standard. Some '06's had the smaller engine. I think these coaches all have an Allison 4 speed trans with 2 stage overdrive. If you are buying a new or used '06 Terra/Fiesta 26Q, make sure it has the 8.1L engine.

The 6.0L W16 uses a 4L80E 4 speed GM automatic transmission. The 2007 W16s use an 8.1L engine and the GM 4L85E automatic transmission. There isn't I'm afraid an Allison 4 speed. All new Allison transmission installations in Workhorse products are 6 speed.
