We had arranged for Workhorse warranty service at a nearby facility while we were at Newmar recently...In the summer of 06,we had an alignment, and had been told one tie-rod end had no boot, and the other had a cracked boot...While our coach was in the shop being serviced at Newmar,a technician arrived from Workhorse and installed new boots...Our question...Should he not have replaced the tie-rod ends as well?
Opinions please.....

No, not if the TECH checked them when he installed the new boots. The Ends only need to be replaced if they are worn and sloppy with side play. The boot is a "DUST INHIBITOR" and is supose to prevent dirt from contaminating the grease and causing the joint in the TIE ROD END to fail prematurely. Tie Rod Ends (AKA - Drag Link Ends) usually will last well over 50,000 miles if kept properly greased.

Best to you ! Glenn.

While in for an alignment, the tech noticed a cracked boot on mine also. Must be another Workhorse weak point. Anyway he said it wasn't all that critical and he could replace it in less than 10 minutes. No charge. I would suspect it would have to be torn for quite a while and allow lots of dirt in for many miles before any damage is done.
