Does the Workhorse chassis (2005 vintage) with the 8.1, and Allison transmission, also have the auto-park brake system?

Here is a section from the Workhorse Chassis Guide.

automatic apply Parking brake
The parking brake on the W Series 18,000 lb. 24,000 lb., and 25,500 lb. GVWR chassis incorporates a unique automatic apply feature. The parking brake is spring applied and hydraulic release. The automatic electric/hydraulic parking system controls the transmission/propeller shaft mounted parking brake. All W Series 24,000 lb. and 25,500 lb. GVWR chassis are equipped with the J72 system.

My W-20 Workhorse chassis does not have the Auto Park. It has the pedal actuated manual parking brake.

Pedal activated also my W20 (2005 house on 2004 chassis).
Which chassis for the OP?

Are you asking because you don't know if you have one, or because you are looking at a unit that you are not sure if it has one?

Looking at one. I've read, to some people, the autopark, would be a deal breaker?

So have you actually seen this unit or driven it? That size unit might be on a W20 chassis and it probably does not have one. Does it have a parking brake pedal like your car might have, or a push pull knob that applies the parking brake? That brake is actually applied automatically when you put it in Park. AAPB Automatically Applied Parking Brake. If it has the knob it doesn't even need to be used unless you are in Neutral and then want to apply the parking brake because it engages when put into park. You will hear a definite disengagement when you take it out of park, it kinda whines and only takes about 2 seconds. I'm not sure your getting the right vibe on that brake, there are many out there that have not had any issues.

My 2005 W22, does NOT have auto park, it has a "regular" pedal parking brake

None of the W20-22's have the AAPB. It would only have an AAPB if it's a P32 or W24 which in 2005 would both have the J72 park brake (assuming 2005 chassis). If you have the VIN, just take a look at the first few digits. If it starts out 5B4MP6 then that is a W20-22 and you're in the clear.

Everything Jon posted in #11 above is correct.

Another way of determining which chassis it is, ask for the sixth vin number. If it is a "3" or a "5", then it is a P32 chassis and most likely has either a J71 or J72 AAPB (depending on model year). Be aware, the P32 does NOT have an Allison, but rather has a GM 4L-80E 4 speed.
