Maybe I can get some help here. I have a 2006 38 foot motorhome with a w24 chassis and a 6 speed allison with push botton controls on gas unit. here is my problem. Sometimess when I go to leave campsite or parking area I am unable to move because the transmision will not come out of park when I push the drive button. there is no sounds or alarms just will not move. Have been towed twice to workhorse dealers and they have been unable to locate the problem. At some of the other times I have just gone for a walk to cool off and when I come back everything seems normal. The unit is no in the factory for some other work and they sent it to a dealer in Elkhart and they have also not been able to correct the problem. Any direction for any of you guys.

thanks
Ken

Remarkable!

There must an adjustment that is being overlooked or some other problem that is presenting at random times. This might suggest that a tech that is highly competent with the AAPB system is needed and if you are having trouble finding one please let us know. You can PM me and we can start working this issue with you.

Mooner1 - To which dealer in Elkhart did they take your motorhome? When we first got our motorhome we were towed three different times for a "reduced engine power" error message during the first 1000 miles. The first three Workhorse centers threw parts at the problem and it would appear again in 200 - 300 miles. The fourth time it happened we were near Elkhart and they towed us to Naquin Chevrolet in Elkhart. They had a tech there that had been working on motorhomes for almost 30 years and he found the problem in about two hours, a loose fuse holder. The problem has never appeared again. The service writer's nickname at that time was Tiny. Don't know if he is still there.

Man, am I glad don't have auto park.... This system has been problematic since it was implemented. To add insult to injury there seem to be very little technical training and even fewer techs that can diagnose auto park problems. Why don't they just dump the system as it not any better than the standard cable operated emergency system that is used on my 03 chassis.

The emergency brake and operation of are identical to the system currently installed in the UFO.

I have also been told and read on Allison that certain models of the 2007/2008 Series 2000 Allison transmission will come with parking pawls. The parking pawl will become available for GVW weights up to 26,000 or less obsolescing the J72 AAPB for front engine motorhomes.

The W16/W18 I understand still retains the J72 AAPB system for the time being however that may change in the next model year.

I don't know if this would apply or not, but on the MCI tour buses I deliver that have the Allison transmission there are times that you have to really depress the brake pedal hard to get the transmission to recognize that you want to go into drive. Some of them it's just a soft depression, but others you almost have to stand on the pedal. If the brake / transmission interface is the same on Workhorse / Allison, this may be the problem. Try taking your foot off the brake and depressing it back down as far as you can. While holding the brake down, depress the "D" button.

I have a 2006 Kountry Star on a W24 chassis but with the column mounted transmission selector. I had the same problem last fall that I could not get the transmission selector out of Park. I called Workhorse. The technician first thought it was a fuse problem. She then had me fiddling around with the brake pedal. I was having a hard time understanding exactly what she wanted me to do but I pushed and pulled around the pedal. I then decided to see if the selector would move. It did. I mentioned the problem to the Workhorse dealer (a GM dealer) when I had my next oil change. They adjusted the brake switch and it was billed under the Workhorse warranty as N2440.2). I have not had the problem again.
