Bad Ground?

After driving a couple hours and then backing into my site, instead of leveling and extending the slides as I would normally do, the campground manager ask if I would give him a hand moving some items in the site. I shut the engine off and lent a hand for about 15 minutes. Upon trying to restart the engine, all I heard was a electrical buzzing and the gauges trying to peg below zero. Since I'm staying here for a couple of weeks, I leveled without the engine and extended the slides. After about a half hour I decided to try to start the engine before calling a repair shop and the engine started right up. Has anyone had a problem like this?

Could be that the shift handle was not exactly positioned in Park. This has happened to me on a couple of occasions and I've "played" with the shifter or put it in Neutral to get it started. Worked every time. I may be wrong, but this has been my experience.

Tom, A bad spot of the solenoid can sometimes do this but you have a new rig so a bad starter is not my favorite diagnosis. I have had it happen to me where the dash lights were coming up with no action from the starter and then when it felt like it the machine cranked over. Solution - Replace starter OK since.

Do make absolutely 100% certain that your battery cables on the battery are clean and tight! "First thing to do!"

Yank on all the cables you see and make sure that they are all tight as well.

I second Driver's final comments, EVERY time it's happened to me that was it, Battery cables. I have to clean them every couple of years it seems.

I checked the cables, all secure. Now I'm going to try to find the engine grounds to chassis.
I have started the engine and it starts fine now, but since the engine is cold I'm not really duplicating the problem. I'm worried about getting stuck in a gas station, so either I fuel up with engine running or shut down and maybe not restart. I'll keep looking and pray to find a loose connection.
