Banks Headers - O2 Sensor Problems

In my modifying and working on Corvettes there have been instances where the long tube headers move the O2 sensor farther back in the exhaust and it trips a code.

Has anyone who has the Banks headers installed run into this issue?

vettenuts-

If you'd asked this question on the Ford Chassis forum, I'd have said "no problems with Banks and O2 sensors (or codes) on a 1997 SuperDuty chassis." According to that installation manual, Banks provide new locations for the sensors in the Y-pipe and Y-pipe extensions, and sensor extension cables as needed.

But this is on the Workhorse and Chevrolet chassis forum, so my experience may not apply. :-|

I did and was told it does happen once in a while. If it does then they recommend the ECM reprogram to compensate the MAF.

Mark,

That is actually good information. The issue I have seen is moving the O2 sensors farther back might not heat them enough. The trick in the Corvette is to move the rear (after converter) O2 sensors to the forward position. But then other changes are required to accommodate this change and these are the types of things I don't want to get into with the coach.

The factory O/2 sensors are located further back in the exhaust already and are calibrated for the increased distance in the ecm. I had the same concern when I installed my thorleys headers but I found the rich/lean transition integrator was calibrated correctly. The only concern I would have is the Banks headers have the O/2 sensors closer to the motor on one side vs the other side but Banks uses a H pipe that would probly help balance thing out. Workhorse only utilize a couple dtc for the O/2 sensors so personally I don't see a issue with it setting any codes.

I would like to see a set installed. I did look at the current stock location and they are near the bottom bend in the pipe after coming down from the manifold. However, the photo I have seen of the Banks seems to show the sensors moved past the collector and farther down the "H" pipe. Hard to tell the actual location from the photo though.

Why not contact Banks and discuss your O2 sensor concern with them?
