Has anyone had a Banks Powerpack installed on the 8.1 GM and was it worth the money? Did you realize a substantial power gain or not?I have a 2005 37ft. Newmar.

As you can see from my signature, we have the Banks Stinger Kit installed on our MH. I cannot, however, attest to whether it is good or bad as it was installed by the original owner. Others will chime in later and will give you their opinion on whether it helped or not. Some prior posts I have read indicate somewhat of a power increase and maybe MPG increase also. What I can say is that we had the Ultra Power upgrade done on our MH and have been pleased with the results. Here is a link to a rather lengthy and ongoing discussion on this forum about the Ultra Power.

Here is the chart of the test results with the various Banks packages on the 8.1L engine. Note that the gains are above 3200 RPMs and mostly in 3600-4000 range, where you try not to operate very much. You probably won't notice it much in normal driving, but on a steep grade that extra power can come in handy.

We had a 1999 E450 Minnie Winnie with the 6.8L V-10 and added the Banks system. You could not fell any "kick in the pants" from take off, but you could tell that the engine was much smoother in the mid-range power. Seemed that it had more guts to pull a hill when you down shifted and just more guts to pass. It also kept the transmission from dropping out of OD as often on the slightest grade.

Their claim is that with the tuning and headers, the engine is tuned to achieve maximum torque which is what you need with a motorhome.

We actually did see a slight increase in fuel economy since I was driving with my foot in it all of the time to keep up on the hills.

That is my 2 cents worth. And with that and 3 more cents, you have a nickel.

The DH has some "Tim Taylor" blood in him...More Power! We had the Banks system installed on 2002 Itasca that kept burning plug wires. While plug wire problem was solved with the Banks, DH was elated to be able to pull 24 foot boat over passes at 55 MPH.
Fast forward to Oct. 2005. We traded that coach in on a new Dolphin 6320 on W22, so of course he wanted to be able to keep pulling that boat and various other trailers full of toys at the same rate.
The Banks system "breathes". The torque makes him smile!
We're happy.

Based on my experience with a Ford V10, I was extremely happy with the added power and I actually got an increase in mileage. Both towing and not towing. I also did not drive with a heavy foot either. I felt the $$ was worth it on our end though. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the 8.1.

I did a quick search on this forum, and came up with 477 posts.

HERE is the Ultrapower Evaluation (part 2) thread.
