I drove Saab's for years and one of the recommended cooling system leak preventors was Bar's leak. BL successfully prevented/stopped heater core leaks and head gasket failures. In fact several auto manufacturers used pre-installed Bar's leak in new car radiators. What are your thoughts as to using this product in the 8.1 GM in this day and age? Thanks.

I know Bars Leaks was very popular when I was younger. It isn't as popular now. I think the reason is that there is a fear that it will clog up radiators and heater cores if used all the time. For quite a while I kept some in the car trunk just in case of an on-the-road radiator leak. I wouldn't use it in my 8.1 radiator without a real emergency. Just my opinion.

Bars leaks is from an era long gone. They used to use it before engine coolant had rust and corrosion inhibitors. Now days there isn't a good reason to use it. I will admit I keep some in the MH for an emergency.

It is recommended that if a physical leak is observed, that it be immediately and properly repaired the 1st time. No stop leak required. I had my go round with Bars and I regret using the product.

the proper way too fix a leak is patch, weld, or replace the leaky component.
Pouring your troubles away... not so much.
Judging from what used 8.1 engines sell for... no way Id risk putting garbage chemicals in any system that cools or fuels or lubricates the engine.
