so I was quite please to learn the recall is cranking up.

Although our W-22 has not given us one ounce of braking problems, I'm looking forward to getting this thing behind us. We have not received our recall notice (hopefully not lost in mail forwarding) so we are just now looking for the best WH scv. center reasonably close to our home in Melbourne, Fl.(any recommendations?) As I understand, WH. com is down for site maintenance, so I'll wait to read up on what exactly is covered and what comes in the kits with the new calipers. Would it be in 'bad taste' to visit a service ctr. to schedule an appointment with just the VIN number, or will we have to wait to show up with the recall letter in hand?

Also, I read about the service centers offering a package deal for $1500.00 for new rotors/pads and such. Are the 'slotted' rotors and new pads worth the investment if our rotors are still in good shape? I did flush and replace the brake fluid before our 11k mile trip (and plan to do so every two years) so I wouldn't think I'd need a complete flush with the recall. Any opinions on the package? We are thinking 'Alaska' for our 2nd big adventure next summer...not getting any younger, ya know! thanks, Bob

scenic route,

You can get the recall done w/o the letter. They will go by vin #. It would be a good idea to contact your preferred dealer as they are very busy getting the recalls done. You didn't mention how many miles your coach has but if your rotors are in good shape the most you might need is new pads. I'm following the same plan on brake flushing.

Good luck and enjoy Alaska,
Dave

Do get the recall performed. I also flushed my system before heading for FL this fall and I experenced the "brake problem" first day out. After a lot of research, and discussing this with DriVer, I elected to go to Larry's Auto Clinic in Myrtel Beach. I know it is not "local" for you but you could not do better than to have Larry do the work. He will get the job done in a few hours and not overcharge you. See my previous post on this subject.

Yeah, when we bought it, it had 17k and now after our trip, it has 28k miles with no problems with the brakes. The rotors should be in good shape, but who knows. We did some pretty steep grades towing the Jeep...like Hell's Backbone at 14 % - low and slow with no overheating.

JoeG...hmmm. Never been to Myrtle Beach...could be an excellent excuse to get in a mini vacation if Larry's that good. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing. Thanks guys, Bob

scenic route,

You should be OK, but I had some unexpected pad transfer to my rear rotors at 45,000 miles. Larry's in Myrtle Beach cleaned it up with a .012" trim at Workhorse expense. They do great work and MB has a lot to offer as well.

I had 43,000 miles when I departed NH Oct. 1st. I have flushed my system twice a year since we were told about the moisture/fluid issue. I had just flushed my system again when the recall started. I could not get the recall done in NH thus, after discussing with DriVer I scheduled it with Larry (you can find his phone number on the Workhorse web site). Also you can plug in and spend the night, if you schedule this with Larry. My rotors also needed just a slight trim to clean them up; zero cost to me. Larry even called last week to be sure I was happy with his service. YOU BET I WAS.

Dave and Joe: OK, I'm convinced. I have heard good things about Larry's Auto Clinic in the past, so I just called and I'm set up for Dec. 1. With the rep. these folks have, I'm surprised we are not having to wait longer. I'm just happy to get an appointment to get this thing behind us and to have it done by an outfit held in such high regard.

Although it may be a little ways up the road, I'm sure we can happily spend a week or so exploring the area and sampling the local seafood in mass quantities. Thanks again for the recommendations. Bob
