Sorry, I was on the way out the door when I typed that quick reply.
Mike gave you the exact information you needed. The pickle fork is nice, but the pickle fork I had was too thick, so I used the two ballpeen hammer trick. The shaft came out pretty easy (first blow).
Two ballpeen hammers, two methods.
Method 1, use opposing hits to the relay arm at the same time. Not the Bell crank shaft. This will cause the shaft to unseat and pop right out the majority of the time.
Method 2, using two ballpeens, loosen the nut on the shaft, place the round end of the ballpeen in the center of the shaft, use the other ballpeen to hit the ballpeen on the shaft.
This will transfer a solid blow and will not case any damage to the threads if done properly.
Preferred Method, run to your local auto parts store and pickup a pickle fork for $10 or $15 dollars.
I know some will think it's a half as* method but I have had to do numerous times over the years and it's fine. Again, the main part is to use "two" hammers.
