Has anyone else out there been presented with a BlueOx "TrueCenter"
Anyone had one installed on a W24.
I'm generally pretty happy with the tracking of my rig and can't imagine driving with a artificial centering device that can be turned on and off. I'm open to recomendations though.

Paul T,

I have a Tru-Center on my W-22 chassis Winnebago 37B and love it. I installed it at the same time as a track bar so I can't say for sure the individual impact of each on the handling, but the overall effect was amazing. The coach is now unaffected by passing semis or a steady crosswind. It's very nice to be able to adjust for the changing direction of the wind and/or any crown in the road on the fly.

The Tru-Center was strongly recommended to me by a friend who has had one on several coaches and he was right on.

Another factor is the added safety in the case of a blow out or dropping off the pavement suddenly. The Tru-Center, as well as several other steering stabilizers, are very helpful in those situations.

Good luck in your choice,
Dave

I'm not sure if the "Next Generation" of the BO Tru-Center is on the market at this time however what is neat about the device is the electric trim feature. I think I could have used something like that when I was crossing South Dakota and the wind was beating me up from an angle off the nose.

The unit cannot be turned off. It does have an electrical solenoid that allows the user to reset what is "center", but the dampening effect is always "on".

I have recently received my replacement unit, and am very impressed with the new design. It is MUCH more robust than the previous version that failed. Thanks to Blue OX for standing behind their products with support and free replacement when something does go wrong. ED

I have one of the original ones installed since 2003 and have had ZERO problems with it. I think mine was one of the first ones made and as such it did not have the problems that the later ones had. As already said, the difference between it and a Steer Safe type is the ability to fine tune the center position on the fly. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to any one that feels a need for this type of stabilizer.

I had one of the original True Center installed on my W24 as an option right from the Tiffin factory. It was nice to be able to re-center the wheel if you were in a constant side wind or if the road was crowned. As Ed says, the dampening effect is always on and the True Center sometimes made it hard to steer at very low speeds such as when maneuvering into a campsite.

Last September when turning a corner in a campground, the True Center locked up and ran me off the road. Fortunately, I was going slow (not getting off the interstate as I was doing a few minutes prior) and it was a non-populated part of the campground. Mine was not one of the units covered by the recall, but it failed anyway. Blue Ox said it would be covered under warranty.

Blue Ox called a few weeks ago and said the replacement would finally be available by the end of April, but we are full-timers and will not be anyplace long to receive the replacement until at least September. Although the redesigned units have undergone extensive testing and have Blue Ox has supposedly solved all the problems with the originals, I haven't decided yet whether I will re-install the True Center or try to sell it.

I installed my replacement unit yesterday, was a pretty straightforward proceedure, fit right where the old one came out. Used the same button from the original installation. A new feature is a solid state timer relay that guarentees the correct length pulse goes to the solenoid. Noticable "clunk" when the button is pressed. Not tried on the road yet.

I have one of the older units which can be damaged by "Sitting" on the button..(You know.. I was talking to them about that timer option..)

One time I may have had a problem with it or perhaps the ground I was driving on. don't know which, but I either overcame it or drove off it or both and no repeates, it was six below that day (Temp wise) and I was parked on dirt

The OP mentiones "A unit that can be turned off" it can not be turned off. What it can be is re-centered.. Of all the steering aids out there this is the only one that I know of that can be re-centered from the driver's seat. I don't often do this. but if you are driving with a steady cross wind.. Or if you are on a slanted road. it can indeed be nice to re-center.

All the others, to re-center you need wrenches and hammers and crawl under the rig.. The Tru-Center.. Just push the button for a few seconds.
