As some may know, I have experienced brake problems requiring lots of stress and sums of money to fix on my W-20. This post is not a complaint about that. When Reeder Chev in Knoxville repaired my brakes, I asked how much it would cost to lube the slides and the service manager advised that it was $125.00 a wheel, plus the usual shop fees and taxes. This is important preventative maintenance, but the price is rather steep and the service facility if 100 miles from my house.

I thought that me and a buddy would try to do it ourselves. I downloaded the Bosch manual and can understand it somewhat but not completely. So, here I am, asking the good guys of this forum for some advise on the easiest way to lube those slides. For example, do we take the tires off or not and can the job get done without disassembling the caliper? I want to save some money, but the job must get done right.

Bob

That sounds like it's a lot of money however I think that the pricing schedule should be per axle.

Now the expense of going 100 miles and back is a whole other matter given todays fuel prices.

That is the problem Mike. I want to do the right thing but the cost of the job plus the fuel used makes it prohibitive.

Caliper Slide Pin Service (done in Solon, OH, at Mainline Truck & Trailer, a Workhorse Authorixzed service facility):
$125 per axle.
This includes remove wheels, disassemble brakes, clean and lube caliper pins, slides, bushings. Inspect calipers for excessive rust & corrosion. Ensure all seals & boots are in good condition (note Bosch manual says replace boots at slide pin service time). Reassemble and ensure calipers do not stick or bind. Install wheels & torque lugs to spec. Road test to ensure proper operation.

The price of $125.00 per axle is a reasonable price to pay. Thanks for the info.
