Brake line failure

Has anyone experienced rusted brake lines

I've had 2 different brake lines fail due to rust.
The first one (12 inches long) failed in 2011 ..the second one (15 feet long) failed last year.

We have a 2004 w-22 I see no rust to speak of.

I think they rust from the inside out. That's why you should flush your brake fluid every so often. Brake fluid is hydroscopic, it absorbs water, then the water collects in a low spot...

From my experience, driving on salty road surfaces does more rust damage to brake lines than water that accumulates over time inside steel brake lines.

How true.
As a resident of the great state of NY we have the most salt laden roads in the nation. By the time a vehicle here is 5 years old you can expect to start having brake and fuel line failures. The most problematic areas are where the lines are secured by plastic brackets holding the lines to the frame and or chassis. The road salt gets trapped against the metal line and just plainly eats away at the line.
