Brakes Relocking Up
This thread is to 8.1 owners who have experienced brake lock ups. Our brakes locked up, front right and rear left! Pulled over and let them cool down, turned around and went home. Very short trip! Has anyone had repeat lockup situations occur?

Sounds like you might be one of the affected units with the Bosch brake pistons. In-a-nutshell, there is no "recall"; but a service advisory interim notice that in November will be posted a safety inspect-and-repair procedure of pistons. Call WH and see if your VIN is affected. If so, have you name added to the list for notification when the fix is available.

The info sent to me states workhorse voluntary safety "recall" notice. Also look at first sticky at the top of the home page.

dveasey, Oh there's a recall alright. The Feds issued a campaign and Workhorse is putting forward the 90501-C which is the recall.

At this time there isn't a recall that's in progress. As soon as the articles in the Interim Notice are met, the recall will be launched. The main piece that needs to be in place is that NHTSA needs to see the new calipers and they have to sign off on them before Bosch starts cranking out a couple hundred thousand replacements. So to that end we need the Feds to get the replacement, get off center on this issue and allow the campaign to proceed.

In my opinion Workhorse and its owners are ready to go, what I believe that we are waiting for is Bosch and the NHTSA to get their act together.

travel, Yes our members have had repeated lockups on the same wheel and different wheels. A wheel might lock up a few time however once allowed to cool it appears that owners can proceed until the caliper locks up again.

I'm not sure how anyone else's repeated brake lockup helps you because your brakes and how they have worn or have been used is different than the next person. The rule here by in large is that there is no rule other than how the problem effects different people under varying conditions.

If you have a repeated lockup you should call Workhorse Roadside Assistance and get on record as having a lockup. If the brake remains locked you need to get that fixed under the terms of the Interim Recall.

It all starts with a call to WRA.

travel,
ANY lockup should be reported to WCC AND NHTSA so that all parties involved in this fiasco are aware of everyone`s problems. Repeated occurances should be repaired under the interum notice.

"ANY lockup should be reported to WCC AND NHTSA so that all parties"

Can you tell us the method for doing this and what documentation is required?
Thanks

to report to nhtsa go here www.nhtsa.gov. you can do it online or over the phone. Like others have said if you are not the orig owner you need to go to workhorse website and make sure you are the owner of record. To answer your orig question I have had 3 failures myself. You can do a search and get alot of info on brakes. Hope this helps.

I have had two failures that I am aware of. The last one the worst. Melted out my ABS sensor. I didn't call the roadside assistance, just limped home. Trying to wait for the final fix in November before traveling again.

I am the original owner and registered with WCC. I just want to make sure I'm on record as having a problem, so I'll record it with nhtsa.
Thanks,

Steamerman, Please record your problem with Workhorse. The last time I looked, nobody at NHTSA is swinging wrenches.

That said, The Interim Notice has provided the phone number for NHTSA so filing a complaint with them is quite appropriate as well.

DriVer.....
Thats odd, I thought Obama was opening a WCC in back of the White House to replace his "cash for clunkers" program. LOL

By the way, who should I direct my call to Workhorse or the Roadside Assistance number? Even though I'm not on the roadside.
Thanks

Workhorse Roadside Assistance is directly in charge of coordinating customers to service centers for any campaign or service issue that is on the books. Call anytime: 877-946-7731.

The coordinating part works best between 8a and 4p or so on weekdays as the service centers may be not be available after hours. There is always someone answering the phone and in the event of an emergency they know who to contact to help.
