I have a 03 Dolphin on a Workhorse Chassis. Does anyone know if I can buy the brake pads direct or from another vendor? I have my wheels off right now, as I'm doing a tire rotation, and I don't need them yet, but I figure I'm done to about 10,000 miles left of so on these pads. I normally do the work myself unless I'm on the road.

Don't know why I didn't think of that, you did my Ultra Power some years ago as well.

Are you sure you really want to wait before changing them?

No need to change the pads if they are greater than the size of the back plate. I changed my rear pads because they were very close however I kept the fronts because they still have a lot to go.

The only reason I mentioned it(especially with out seeing them) is my concern for thinner linings running hotter when used heavily such as in traffic or long downgrades and having the pad detach from the metal backing.

I've seen way too many Ryder truck rental Topkicks that a single pad (normally always the inner pad at the piston side) that have detached when they were getting to the last 25% or so while the opposite side was still good. With the cost comparison of a set of pads versus a single rotor I opt for the less expensive alternative not to mention having new pads.

One thing with the GMC was in writing from GM Ryder was told it was permissible to replace even just the inboard pad while leaving the others go such as when the inboard showed up as well worn because of a sticking caliper. You would think in such a litigious society that a truck rental company would not bite off on that

JohnRR, Having excellent working calipers the stop and go of slow traffic might not be such a challenge and after all how many cycles can we expect the average RV owner will accomplish under these types of conditions unless that person lives in the heart of a major metropolitan area. A Ryder truck on the other hand will undergo much of this type of use.

Grades can also be defeated and the owners here are fully aware of that because they moderate their speed coming off grades, practice select shifting, use their OE grade brake and or their Ultrapower Allison Grade Brake.

Wheels off the rig, I would look carefully at the pads and if they were close to requiring changing, I would go for it. In the 10 years that I have been supporting owners here, we have not read often if at all about pad separation. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen it's just extremely rare for it to happen on an RV. Prior to the recall some of these brakes were displaying poorly however pad separation did not seem to be one of the complaints.

Happy to hear of the pad separation being rare on RV's, my experiences were with the 90 model years.

I'm getting more out of this site in experience than I'm putting back into it
