I took my first trip of the year this past weekend. Everything seemed good after doing my un-winterizing and inspection.

After about 100 miles I noticed that the brake pedal felt a bit different. I was correct, the brake pedal wasn't returning home, leaving the brakes on. I had to use my left foot to pull up the brake pedal the rest of the trip. I double checked to make sure the carpet or anything else was in the way of the pedal and everything looked clear.

Can anyone give me any idea's on what this could be??

Also, how do I know if my brakes are part of this recall??

thanks.

Check out this site to see if your chassis is part of the recall:

If you haven't bled your brakes that might help.

IF your signature is correct- P32- it is NOT part of the Bosch Brake Caliper recall.

Thanks for the link, my chassis wasn't included in the recall.

I'll try bleeding the brakes and see if that helps.

I don't know if the P32 has a similar bell crank linkage going to the master cylinder like the WH. But if it does, maybe it needs a grease fitting like added to WH chassis around 2004. I believe the symptoms you describe was the reason the zerk fitting got added to the cross shaft. Do a search on this Forum for zerk fitting or brake bell crank.

Hey KTMNOEL,

I believe your problem is exactly what M&EM said above. I have a 2002 P-32 chassis. Mine was doing same thing when I purchased 4 years ago. I did little research here on this site and added the zerk (grease) fitting to the bell crank linkage. Shot it full of grease and now pedal comes up all the way and brakes lights go off. Hope you get it figured out.

Happy travels,
Larry

thanks for the suggestions everyone. I dove into the break pedal today and found that it was really binding up in the linkage behind the pedal. I took everything apart and reassembled it and it looks like that fixed the issue. I'm leaving tomorrow for a short trip and will test it out.

Question: If you step in front and open the "hood" is there a bell-crank there that translates the front/back motion of the pedal to a side to side motion to press on the MASTER cylinder?

Is there a ZERK fitting in the bell crank (I can answer that one,, NO)

Well,, A couple of years ago here in the forums the issue of that Bell Crank came up, It needs to be lubricated from time to time, In 2005 models (Mid-2004 construciton date) they added the ZERK, if yours is older, you don't have it. (I DO)

Instrucitons were presented here for dissassembling, cleaning, initial re-lubrication and adding a zerk for future lube.

Hopefully DriVer will be able to link to that discussion for you.. I can not.

The link to the picture I provided in post #11 (in response to posts # 8 and 9 above) ONLY applies to W-xx series chassis, NOT the P-32.

Sorry for any confusion I may have added. Ed
