Brake Recall Pricing
Just had the brake recall completed at Lodi RV in Calif ornia. I had the complete brake job done at the price of $2,457. After the fact I learned that Workhorse has Select Workhorse Service Centers that do the complete job for $1,499. For whatever reason they appear to have created a two-tier system of service. I verified this pricing difference by calling R-Mechanic in Livermore, California close to my house. Just thought I would mention this as a "heads up" to anyone who has yet to have the recall done. Talk about feeling Stupid !!!

Sorry, but I'm confused. The WH brake recall was free, so why did you have to pay anything?

He's talking about getting the full brake job done in conjunction with the recalled calipers (rotors, seals, gaskets, fluid, etc.)

That's some school of hard knocks. We had that info available here since September 1st but it only does someone good if they see it. So it is true. At the select service centers you can save ~$1,000.00 on a complete brake job.

That's a tough one to gulp down, Firefolk, sorry. It sounds to me then, that the best track would be to go to a "select" WH service center.... Any reason not to, other than closeness? From what I'm reading on the WH site, the "Select" ones also have all the parts needed, whereas many others are on a wait list? Has DriVer or anyone posted a "best way to proceed" kind of thing? If so, I've missed it.

A number of us have done that several times There are 2 lists on the WCC website and the options are explained. 1 list for non select centers and the other for the select centers. Either one will do the work however the select centers will most likely have all the parts you need, can get you out the door in a relatively short time and will offer a fixed cost for a complete brake overhaul.
Here in Myrtle Beach we only have 1 center and they are a select center. In some markets like Florida for instance they have 30 service centers but only 8 are listed as select centers.
The reason why some centers are select is because they have been extended special incentives and are under contract from WCC to control the cost of a complete brake job saving owners approximately $1,000.00 on a complete overhaul. If you have a 2001 to 2004 motorhome and can get out the door with all new brakes for 1495.00, I think that's an offer that I wouldn't pass on because you can do it now at that price or do it piecemeal later at perhaps a greater price.
Now all of that said if you have a 2006 -2010 motorhome with good parts there is no need to replace everything or anything other than the calipers. If you don't want to take the deal walk away with the calipers for FREE. No one is under obligation to take the deal or have anything done other than what will render the vehicle safe for the road.
$2400.00 paid by firefolk was not excessive, it's a good and fair retail price however I'm sure that if he knew about the SSC he would have opted to save a grand. After all a grand here and there can add up to real money in your pocket.
This deal is a one time offer. It can be taken advantage of or not it's totally up to the owner. What did I do? I passed on the deal and only bought 1 lousy set of brake pads. I have a 2003 chassis. Read My Blog.

Being new I have to ask the brake recall aside is there a "2 tier pricing system" for other repairs performed by select and non select service centers?

JohnRR, Good question! No there are not. The brake deal is only a being offered at the time that the recall is being performed. I just had a fuel pump and an exhaust manifold gasket done. Both cost about the same as a brake job.

DriVer - Wasn't implying that you should have done any more than you have. Just asking. Seems to me that you have done an over-the-top job helping a lot of us through this brake warranty issue, okay? It's just that it's been difficult finding the path, you know, it unwinds slowly, and that's just how it happens.... It's not easy....Thanks for all your help.

Please forgive the "all inclusive" response which I expect was a reply to more than your post. Thanks for the comeback.
