When I had my first brake failure, the technician said he read a high temp fault code with his scanner. Could a Scangauge read that same high temp or monitor the brake temps?

Thanks,

Ron

Is there a readout for the ABS sensor? The ABS sensor for the left rear wheel had burned out.

At the time I didn't know anything about the calipers seizing up but I remember the Tech plugging his scanner in and saying there was a high temp reading on the left rear wheel.

This was done in 2006 in Roanoke VA after we came off the Blue Ridge Parkway and had no brakes.

Thanks,

Ron

The scan probably reveled a bad ABS sensor and due to other conditions the technician surmised it was due to overheating.

Would a technician use a scanner to trouble shoot a brake problem, and if so, what would it tell him?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron, A technician will often use a Tech II to scan all the vehicle systems and they will be able to scan for problems in the ABS circuit. A Tech II is also capable of applying the brakes and observing the results and it can be used to bleed brakes technologically rather than manually as so many of us do.

I am not certain how all of this technology works but that's one of the first diagnostic tools used to check a hydraulic system.

Thanks Mike,

I pretty sure when the technician hooked up his scanner he told me he read a code that showed him there was a high temp on the left wheel or brake.

I wish I could remember how high the temp was but I don't, but I do remember him telling me it showed a high temp on the wheel that he had to replace the calliper and ABS sensor.

Ron

He must have been blowing smoke because there are no sensors there other than the ABS, which does no read temperature.
