DriVer or anyone,

Can you tell me how often the zerk should be greased? Miles or time?

TIA

rvjer, you should grease the brake zerk fitting along with all others, during recommended chassis lube and oil change. I do that every 3,000 miles.

If its this zerk fitting when ever I greased the chassis would just give a couple of squirts until seen coming out top.

My W24 came from the factory with the zerk. Plus there is a small hole close to the top of the crank. When the crank is lubed grease flows from this hole. If you install a zerk, drill the hole.

I have a 2001 allegro with a p32 chassis and had a problem with the brake pedal sticking down. Had to use the bungie cord fix to hold it up. I got excited when i read about how a brake zerk fitting could help the problem, so went over to the garage with the info in hand. They could'nt find it. They said i didn't have one. They worked with the linkage and it worked. Did they miss something? I also have had to have major work done on the parking bake twice. One under warranty one not. I wish there was an after market fix. It takes alot of the enjoyment away knowing the bad idea brake could leave me in a bad way.

Rampro, welcome to irv2 and Workhorse forum.

I haven't install the zerk fitting yet but use a stainless steel spring which works good, better than bungie cord.
Most people will buy a zerk and drill two holes as Tom shows in his picture. Make a copy of his pic than you can show mech.
Enjoy the forums and post often.

Should this zerk be greased with a specific grease?

I think we should use synthetic grease fot this application as it tends to be less affected by temperature extremes--think of the strong cooling effect of highway speeds in very cold temperatures at high altitude or seasonal cold. That bellcrank is located well away from any engine heat and non-synthetic grease may slow pedal return.

In general, synthetic lubes exhibit these characteristics, and for reference look at the Amsoil Website.

I was planning to install the zerk myself. However I had my MH in to an authorized Workhorse service center and while it was there they installed the zerk under warranty. No charge to me. So check with your dealer or an authorized service center.
