On my way to the workhorse dealer to have my calipers replaced and 1 mile before my destination with my wife in front of me went to slow down for approaching stop light and the pedal went to the floor, cannot describe the feeling . I down shifted to 2nd gear then ist and luckily for me and my wife I came to a crawl before the light turned green and 1/4 mile ahead was the dealer, Thank God. I have read these blogs but believe me untill it happens to you the experience is overpowering.

I'm glad to hear you didn't have an accident (other than maybe your shorts!). It is definitely NOT a good feeling with no brakes and several tons of rolling motorhome beneath you. I hope the dealer gets everything properly repaired and gets you safely back on the road.

Yes sir, thats been my point for almost 3 years now. My pedal went to the floor twice out of 3 failures and there's no way to explain that feeling until its happened to you.. Thank goodness yours turned out ok for you and your family.

Why were you going to get you calipers replaced? Isn't it too early for the recall?

Have not had that experience with my Motor home... yet.. and hope never to change this line. But have with a car
Of all the things you should have done in that case.. I would say you did the right ones.
Downshift, slow down, use Emergency brake if needed (Though on my rig that s a major issue, it's not well positioned.

Also wonder how a caliper change was arranged and what units were going to be installed. Maybe I misunderstood your post.

Sure the guy was scared as we all would be. But it is fair for George Z and Full-Timers to ask about the calipers since the original poster did mention it anyway.

And when I had my failure I also was upset. Getting ready for a big trip and wanted to know if there was any way to obtain new calipers this soon under recall , or if there was another option the OP knew of. My question was in line with the posting and I continue to ask.

If the OP had an appointment to have his calipers replaced under the Interim Notice then he would be getting new (old style) calipers until the redesigned calipers become available. There was probably no charge to have the calipers replaced and other equipment if that was damaged by the over heat condition.

That is what i would assume DriVer but the IF in your statement is why I asked my question. If he had a previous overheating, if they were being covered under the Interim Notice, or if there was other extenuating circumstances. With the original post all I could due in assume.

Capt RC, Although this may no longer apply to you.... if the brake pedal goes to the floor on your motorhome, one should agreesively pump the brakes. This emergency proceedure has at times been timely enough to bring a vehicle to a stop. The 2 to 1 downshift was also the right thing to do as well.
As a last ditch effort one should consider applying the driveline brake which will help slow the vehicle down as well.
When you departed your home, was there any drag, brake odor, ABS lamp set, smoke or anything else that would have suggested that a caliper might have been hung up?
We are all pleased to see that your were able to command and control the situation and you arrived at your destination safely.
Have you found out anything yet from the dealer about what the failure was? There should no charge for any of the services you are receiving on your vehicle that are directly related to the failed caliper(s).

George, I hear that. Darned word IF ... "should a caliper failure cause peripheral damage to the attached components they should be replaced at no cost to the owner."
No "IF"
That's what I would expect will happen in this case or in any case.
