I have a 2003 Damon Daybreak Motor Home on the Workhorse Chassis and The brake pedal will stick to the floor and the brakes won't come off unless you pull the pedal up with your toe. Does anyone know what the cause is of this problem or if there is a recall about it, or does anyone know how I can repair it myself.Any help will be appretiated. Thanks John Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada my email address is vidgie@shaw.ca

Sounds like a rusty bell crank. Get it lubed up and stay out of the freezing salt/slush mix up there. Good luck!!

One or more of the cross shafts in the brake pedal linkage needs to be lubricated. You will have to follow the linkage under you vehicle and put grease in all the fittings to start. Watch out for linkages where they forgot to machine for and install fittings. Some people have had to drill the holes and install their own grease fittings.

My bell craks are well greesed.I don't see how a bell crank would have anything to do bith a sticking break pedal. Thanks John

The bellcrank fitting that needs to be lubed is in most cases in a place you can't see it. On my 2000 model i had to go under the left wheel well to get to it. and i had to grease it often.good luck.

Here is an extensive thread on possible brake failures for some Workhorse chassis. There is some discussion I believe on lubrication. In particular, look on page 3 for grease zerk locations. NHTSA investaging w20 brake failures.

My brakes were acting the same. I've kept the famous grease fitting well lubed. checked calier pins, they were found well lubed. There is something inherently wrong between the pedal and the caliper. Either the power steering system, engine off system or the ABS.
I tied a bungi cord from the brake pedel to the dash and went to Florida, took care of the pedal not returing.
I suppose the government and workhorse will get this straightned out after enough incidents occure.

I placed a spring stainless steel between the brake piston and frame of brake wall works good returns the pedel to full retracktion and operates the brake switch for CC and step operation.

Wow...all I did was have Workhorse put in the zerk fitting and filled it full of grease and it seems to have worked. Mine was aweful...

I do not have zerk fitting that wasn't the problem it was getting the piston to release out of brake cylinder completly even with grease.

"I do not have zerk fitting that wasn't the problem it was getting the piston to release out of brake cylinder completly even with grease" 007
007,
If I'm not mistaken the break recall also addressed the installation of a zerk fitting on the bell crank shaft..
The first Work Horse service center didn't install the fitting, but when I brought it in for a A/C problem at Turning Wheel in Florida they noticed it wasn't done and completed the service... I'm guessing that ALL WHC's should have the zerk fitting???
