At the foot of the Eisenhour Tunnel. Engine is making a Gawd awful racket
Sounds bad. Oil pressure normal. Temp in the middle. Is there a typical 8.1 failure point. Roadside assistance can't come until tomorrow, so we're camping on the side of the road. Never been. Towed before.

Don't know of anything that would make that kind of noise with oil and engine temp normal. I guess the question is does it make the noise with the engine in nuetral and what was going on just before the breakdown. Don't forget if you are towed for any long distance the drive shaft should be pulled, not necessary for the short haul however.

Dang Sammy at lest you had a bright red tow, mine needed at paint job or at least some wax. The RV always looks better behind a shinny tow.

Max, Make sure the drive shaft is removed no mater how far the tow. Second get it to a workhorse shop no matter how far. Mine had good oil pressure, normal temp, and a broken #7 piston. Installed new engine in Georgia. Made mistake not hauling it to workhorse shop.

Max,

Two years ago with 19,000mi Our 2004 8.1 lost the #7 piston. Good oil pressure, normal temp. Make sure drive shaft is removed no matter how far the tow. Get it to a workhorse shop. They will tell you it's over three years old and not their problem, but it is! Get all the reps involved. It was a $12,000.00 job.

Mfire, I'm curious about your comment to get all the reps involved? Did WH take care of your issue despite being out of warranty? I just had my three years end in April. Just under 10,000 miles doesn't seem like it's even gotten the engine broken in.

Big, No workhorse did not stand behind the engine. I called the area rep and he said tuff luck it's over three years old. I was 2000 miles from home so I had to get it fixed. took over a month to get it done.

I just got up and with a cup of coffee, fired up the computer and read about your problem. Max, I hope all works out well for you and like Mike said, we're all with you. Maybe it's just something minor that just makes a lot of noise. Here's hoping anyway!
