I got a question on the Taylor Extreme plug wires (99615);
Are the plug boots any better than the original plug wire boots?
Do the heat socks cover the boots and metal shields or just the wires?

The reason I ask is because all my heat related plug boot failures were at the boots so if the boots aren't better and the sock does not cover the boot, the extreme wires will not help with my plug wire burning issue.

You still use the factory metal sheild on the boot. I installed Taylor's on my RV before I got the Vent kit and I still burned up a taylor wire. I have the vent kit installed and I have 10,000 miles on a factory set of wires. Get the vent kit.

Fultimers,

When I took my EMT/Paramedic training I was taught to "Treat the Problem and not the Symptom".

Burnt plug wires are a symptom, the problem is to much heat. This usually means not enough air flow from the grill area. The vent kit is "a" solution but may not "the" solution.

I went out last night and checked a Taylor 409 plug wire and compared it to a stock one. They use the same boot.

As for the Nomex covers,. You can pull them down around the boot but as I see it they are not designed specificly to cover the boot.

If you are looking for a nomex sock that covers the boot and comes 2or 3in.
up the wire. I boutht the MSD wires a couple yrs ago that do just that.

That's pretty much the answer I was looking for. I do have the vent kit and have not burnt a wire in over 10,000 miles. I just want a little more insurance. "Once bitten, Twice shy" All my wires burnt through the boot so it looks like the Taylor Extreme won't do me much good.

Once applied there is a high success rate in resolving wire burn our events.

if one is having problems with burning wires i believe the Taylor wires will do you no good. The boots are exactly the same as the stock wires. The Taylors are for performance not heat protection ! If the air flow kit works to cure your problem your lucky. I suggest you carry spare wires.

Full-Timers, I was in Jacksonville Florida during Christmas and made an appointment to have my fuel line recall fixed. Mentioned that my exhaust was running extra black on left side.

Went back to pick it up and they had installed new wires and an air flow kit under warranty from Workhorse. Said two wires were burnt due to heat. Ran good on way down, ran great on way back home.

I would think that burnt wires causing extra black exhaust would defiantly cause a miss. I knew right away every time I burnt a wire.
