Frosty Question
OK,
Before leaving, I added one can (12 oz I believe) and it took it - slowly - over 15 min. The compressor took it fine and its cooler. The short cycling stopped.
Does it make sense that only one can could make that big a difference?
This RV sat at a dealership for 2.5 years before selling, so it sat around a lot with no use.
Is it possible the coolant leaked out slowly over that time due to no use, and that there is little or no problem now?
My decision now is, do I bring in a system that is cooling and still request warranty service? Since warranty does not cover hoses or seals, my guess is its probable that there is nothing to fix that warranty would cover. At best they'd say I need a new hose or seal and charge me for it.
That is OK, except the closest warranty shop is a 3 hour drive and thats a lot of trouble and cost.
Since it started cooling, I may be better off just hoping for the best.
Thoughts?

if you can send me the last 8 digits on your VIN# in "Private Mail" (click on my name send PM) I can check to see what your warranty start date is and we can take it from there. I expect that you are the 1st owner and the vehicle was not previously registered.

Using the AC will definitely help the seals. Just sitting they tend to dry out and leak slight amounts of refrigerant. It is very possible that 1 can did the trick for you and if you give it a lot of use that will do a lot to get lubrication through the system and to the seals. Good Luck

I do not like the dyes and sealants. They generally cause more problems than they cure. It is best to get it properly leak checked with a Freon leak detector and the leak fixed before adding refrigerant.
Been in the industrial refrigeration field for 40 years and seen shade tree mechanics mess up a lot of equipment. Some are lucky and get it fixed.

having been in the air conditioning field for a number of years have to agree with TXiceman. Some years ago a friends son borrowed my guages to charge his oldsmobile. He decided that if one can dropped temps X number degrees more would be better. End result was compressor case actually cracked open
