Another item for discussion. I have a 2003 W22 with the 8.1L engine. The catalytic converters have been changed due to the recall. The question is ???? How many cells per inch in the Catalytic converter?? I am sure everyone will have the answer on the tip of thier tongue. I am trying to figure restriction vs flow. Many thanks. John--
Not to worry. I just had one of my OE exhaust
cats replaced at the end of October. It had come apart internally and even so, holding up the old cat and looking through it, I could see daylight. BTW..I replaced mine with a "high flow" aftemarket cat and I could see through that one as well. To say that there is NO resriction in flow through the cats is wrong, but the Vortec runs best with SOME exhaust restriction. That is why, when you install a
high-flow exhaust system, the engine falls on its' collective face and has no bottom end....

Mike Bronzini, how about the above statement, do you have any dyno figures for your exhaust systems?

You should as know that there is a fuel enrichment parm just for the cat's. That's how GM keeps them cool and from burning up due to heat. This is probably part of the reason that your tail pipes are sooty.

The recall is for emissions related incorrect Catalytic Converter. Campain #60401C dated October 2004. It appears that it is for the model year 2003 This involves VIN range 355763 through 372635. The part numbers W8001469 for the W22, W8001470 for the P32 and W8001507 for the W52. Happy Motoring John

In my opinion, running a vehicle without catalytic converters is environmentally irresponsible.
Touring the USA as a recreational vehicle enthusiast makes it incumbent upon us to be conscientious about the the foot print that is left behind in the pursuit of enjoying the natural and other scenic wonders available to us in the great country.
