Anyone have experience with chain sets for dual tires on a W24? Thoughts?

I wouldn't put them on my rig. I don't like driving it in the snow. Too many experiences with a link breaking and slapping the heck out of the fender wells. But here's a web site I found if you want to do a little comparison shopping.

Wouldn't consider anything except a single set of chains for the duals. 1) They will do the job if you let yourself get into a situation where you need chains; 2) they satisfy the requirement "to carry chains" if you let yourselve get into the situation where you need to carry chains; and 3) they are easy to install if you let yourself get into a situation where you have to install chains. Carry a couple of 2X6's to drive the inside dual up on and install each chain on the outside dual while it is just hanging free, one at a time...

Snow Chains are a needed item *IF* you get caught without them. The price of a ticket,
plus not being allowed to continue onward, more then makes up for the up-front cost of the chains. I do not currently have chains, because
of the fear of doing thousands of dollars of damage from a broken link. When you hear it
slapping it is too late.

Once per year we travel
to Phoenix to attend the NASCAR Fall Race in November. Snow season. The Pass out of Ashland on I-5 is over 4300 ft. Our plans (with no chains) are to head out to 101 on the Coast if
the Pass is snowed in. So far so good. For 60
dollars, at the link posted, you can buy a set
of the 19.5" size cable chains, our size, just to have in
a bag in a storage bay..cheap insurance.

Chief--

Your point is well-taken. Of the legal chains
offered the cable ones have to be the lightest.
One would really not need to carry them all the
time--but sure as heck--I'd forget them and
get ticketed..CRS...

You have the same Topics in multiple forums. I have asked the Moderator to end one and keep the other one alive.

You would only install chains on the outside duals.

I don't own chains for my motorhome and will never buy a set, and we drive in the snow up here all the time.

T&W Our cable chains weigh about 25#. We carry them in the winter, just in case.

BTW, why would 25# or more, be of concern to you?

Don't forget, in certain conditions in California your toad (if being towed) will have to have a set of chains on also.

The solution is simple, if you don't want to carry chains then don't travel roads where they are required by law. If you want to travel the roads where chains are required the spend $100 on a set and if space is a concern then get a bag to store them in instead of a box or just lie them flat on the bottom of a compartment and cover them with a piece of carpet.
