Nobody at Workhorse seems to know where that 13,000 mile arbitrary number came from, and it sure doesn't mean that is correct. The 13,000 mile number was never a "requirement" either. I believe "someone" from Workhorse mentioned it at a Rally and somehow became gospel.
I have talked to our Regional Service Manager for Chevrolet, and two Dealer Service Managers that said that waiting until 13,000 miles for this engine is an old wives tale, and not true at all. (another old wives tale is the one where someone says to "not go back to dino oil after using synthetic oil".) These engines have their rings seated the day they were installed in the Workhorse frame. Many engines roll off the assembly line with synthetic already in them, including the big V-8's in Corvettes.
Nowhere in my owners manual does it say to wait until a mileage number to use synthetic. Only thing it mentions is to use API rated oil only.
I changed mine from dino to synthetic at 5,000 miles and never looked back.

You can change anytime you want... In the old days they wanted you to wait until the rings seated. But, with modern processes and the improvements in the synthetic oil this no longer a requirement.
Go for it.

I haven't read of a single problem changing fromy dino oil to synthetic with these engines on this forum or any other forums.....only read about the many advantages with the synthetic.

My coach is on a 2007 W24 chassis which was delivered with 2006 Workhorse manuals. In the manual, it specifically stated to wait until 13,000 miles before switching to synthetic fuel.
At the Workhorse Custom Chassis Rally in Tucson this past Mark, I asked the Workhorse national service manager if waiting until 13,000 miles was a hard requirement.
The response was you could change to synthetic oil any time you wanted. There was no explanation given as to why the 13,000 mile requirement was in the manual. My guess it's a legacy requirement that was just never removed from the literature.
I switched to Mobil 1 at 9,000 miles.

I totally agree with Mark on this one. The advantages make it more than worthwhile.

Could you quote the page and chapter this was reported on, because I can't find this in my 2006 Workhorse Owner's Manual or the online 2006 Workhorse Service Manual, or ever heard of this statement in any of the Workhorse Manuals.

Is there a "W" number on the (outside cover) spline of the manual that you have?
Thank you.

My coach is currently at the local dealer's for some remaining warranty work; my collection of manuals are in their on-board storage location under the bed.
Hopefully, I will have the coach back in my possession sometime next week and will find the reference in the manual.
Of course, now I'm nervous as all get out I dreamed the whole thing but I don't think so ...

How about a link to the source of your information.

I was looking up info on this site on syn oil and a member said he had engine failure after he switched to syn oil. I dont remember the topic title but Im sure if you search you will find it. I dont know if he was blaming it on syn oil or not. It just scared me alittle so I will do alot more thinking before I decide what I will do.
