I replaced all 4 calipers today. It took 6 hours of heavy labor. The worst part of the job was removing the lugs and wheels. The rear wheels wouldn't budge after removing the lug nuts. After a good half hour of spraying penetrating oil and swinging the sledge they came off. I cleaned all the rust from the hubs and applied neverseize on the five guide tabs. Also cleaned the round opening on the rims. They slipped right on. If you think your changing a flat on your own and your wheels have not been removed in a couple of years it "aint happnen". anyway..... I also changed the brake fluid (second time). It was only a year old and started to have some color to it. I took her out and ran her like a race car, when I got home the brakes were nice and hot but the wheels spun with no resistance after lifting her off the ground. 338.00 Total for the do it yourselfer. Small price to pay for peace of mind. Well I have to go lay down now because my back is shot. I think I sweat 2 gallons of water.

angleman, If the timeline is good, you just make it very easy for the service center to get you in and out of the garage!

Did you get loaded calipers? How are the pads & rotors?

angelman,
Did you replace the brake fluid with synthetic? If not you can always do it the next time, it has better heat tolerance. Now go lay down and have a beer...but maybe not in that order.

Sounds like you had a great day

Would you inform us of what parts you used?
Be as specific as you can please.

A photo of the package and one of the old calipers with casting number showing (or described) would be about perfect.

Thanks.

I did not use loaded calipers. The pads and rotors were excellent condition. This was one of the deciding factors for doing this job. I used walmart dot 3 fluid. I will be changing the fluid on a yearly basis. Very easy to do once your set up with the right equipment. THe new calipers were the exact same castings of the old ones. The reman. company was Nastra Automotive Industries, Inc. 3 sidney ct. Lindenhurst, N.Y. 11757 1-631-225-1225 I dealt with Tim. I think owners should change all there calipers now while all of your other components are in good condition. My back feels much better today.

Did you change the calipers because of the recall, or anything?

Our new MH (2004 fleetwood) is going into the shop this week for the caliper recall.

way to go i've done it myself and it sure feels better once your finished knowing you can do it and that it's done right! if you would have had it done they probably wouldn't have gone the extra mile with the anti-sieze and everything.

You are right Poorfarmer, the feeling of satisfaction is overwhelming. I should have done this over a year ago. Driving down the road with your heart in your throat is not fun. As a result of this brake experience I now know how to drive from N.Y. to Florida and back and only touch the brakes twice.
